New to possibly collecting this brand...

Is the only way to get first production off like ebay after retailers sell these? Or if you buy like day of release on a brand new knife will you get first production??

2. Are these worth much more than the regular, or should I stick to limited edition and gold class for collectibles?

Thank you!!

Benchmade will normally do a special run of knives marked as first production run. Usually they are no different than any other run except markings.

However, this is not always the case. Sometimes they may be also numbered 1/100, 2/100, etc.

I have also seen production runs marked 1/1000 on each knife blade. You don’t know where in the production run your knife is produced. Only that it is 1/1000.

FYI, most of these knives do not have any special pricing. If a regular run is priced at $150, you can expect the same price from a first run run knife. Down the road pricing may be different.

If the knife is used or the box is missing the price should be lower even with FPR markings.

Benchmade offers wonderful customer service. Call them and ask questions.

Personally, I would stick with limited run and gold class knives unless you want to use it.

Which knife are you considering?

Was likely going to stick to limited productions like you mentioned, but did some across a first production bugout cf elite, pretty entry level, however priced super well. I just imagine down the road since first productions are generally numbered theyd carry a little more value too. But like you said limiteds and golds would likely be where value may increase some

If you're looking for value, stick to limited and Gold Class.

I'd prefer to not have the "first production" mark, but I don't mind too much, it doesn't affect how I use the knife. I definitely have waited to buy a model until I could find one without the first production marking. At least the newer lasermark looks better than the older one.

You can get the first production knives anywhere that sells Benchmades, most likely if you're buying the day of the release, you'll get a first production. I recently bought a discontinued Mini Loco from a retailer, and it had the first production laser mark on it.

Thanks for your input, I wouldnt want the markings on their either if i planned to use the knife, this however would be for collection purposes per this question.
The mini osborne drops soon and was wondeting if i bought asap if itd be a first production marked or not. Thanks!!

In my experience, you’ll have a way better chance at getting a first production knife from local dealers. I live in Chicago, there’s a shop I go to that has a few first productions set aside for folks who ask. Priced exactly the same as regular production ones. I’ve got a few fpr knives and use them just the same as if they weren’t. I have a pre-production 905 I use the hell out of...some may cringe, which is my point. A collection is personal, for reasons unique to the collector. So “worth” is unique as well...it’s tricky lol.

Agree with everyone else it's clear from the exchange here that first production are worth no more. Furthermore, the number people who will buy it goes down a bit because many people don't like writing all over their blade.

To me the "first production x/xxx" marking on a blade decreases its value because I prefer blades as clean/clear as possible.
