Looking for someone who has had some time owning /using the Benchmade fixed blade hunter type knives.#180 #190 #201 #220.They kind of are in the same breed of knife I am looking for ,but some are of different steel. Thanks

I have a 190.

Nice knife, good flat-grind cutter, well made; but IMO the handle is a bit too small.

Have the 201 - great slicer in D2, good ergo's and nice sheath. Great small FB for camp or hunting.

Looking for one more knife to fill the bill for deer work. With all the fancy shmancy steel out there I am looking to get a blade that I can do my buisness and get out .A knife that will not need a whole lot to keep crackin.I dont cut breast bones on deer, just need a easy way to the wind pipe and I am out.A blade that will be easy to take care of for other camp jazz as well. Just looking for good /bad thoughts on steel or styles of the Benchmades you may have had.It seems to be a good build on these knives.Thanks. ( is shmancy a word ? ) LOL

Look at the Benchmade Ritter MK3 fixed blade in S30V. Absolutely wonderful hunting knife that will easily serve double duty for a camp and trail knife.

Suggestion: take a look at Bark River knives (Bark River Knife & Tool).
They are superb quality and offer several versions, one of which should suit your needs just fine.

A.G. Russell also offers a couple of interesting deer knives.

Also, I have seen the 210 Activator available with a sharkskin sheath - S30V and for about 90 bucks. Great small fixed blade.

The Benchmade #180 #190, looking at prices on the net some are listed as 440C and some are D2.Was there a year that a switch was made on the steel ? Thanks

My 'woods-walking', aka 'bushcraft-lite' knife was a Buck 110 - then a 192 Vanguard (below right), not liked due to the need for a belt sheath - but what a great grip! It's 420HC blade has remained shaving sharp - despite a lot of use. I should be able to touch this up on the Spydie 'Sharpmaker'. I saw the expensive Bayley knife Bear Grylls of 'Man vs Wild' uses now...

I elected to look for something better... ordered a BM 201 'Activator+' (below center). Great knife - feels okay to good in my hand, cuts bark, dried wood, etc, quite well. Nice flat-grind D2 steel - really keeps an edge. It could fit in a large pocket during hikes... may be a candidate...

Sadly, I had ordered a Bark River K&T 'Huntsman' in black Micarta - and it arrived two days later... unfortunately! It set a new standard. That convex grind is deceptively sharp - and has a tendency to curl bark & slithers away as it cuts. Interesting blade - A2 steel - thicker blade than every other knife I have, save a Greco 'Fighter', Puma 'White Hunter', and BRK&T 'Gameskeeper'! What have I started? Aha, the handle is a little short... great grip, despite that. It's short 3.125" blade - and 7" OAL made it a better pocket carry alternative. I considered altering it's neat leather sheath - until I found the 'KSF Pocket Sheath'. It will also hold either a Peak LED Solutions 'Matterhorn' mini flashlight, or, in my case, a 3/8" firesteel - and said 'Huntsman'. I've found my 'answer'!
