I am not advertising for anyone but the company that rhymes with cabelas, is selling a fixed blade Griptilian, combo D-2 blade for 60 bucks...anyone interested...sorry if were not allowed to announce good finds..

Not really allowed to deal spot, I don't think. Though there is probably a more subversive way to share your info. Thanks for the heads up though.

I've heard that Benchmade fixed blade Griptillian was a really nice outdoor blade. I didn't know it had D-2 blade steel for some reason I thought I had heard they made it with CPM-154.

How is the sheath on that knife? That does sound like a great deal on that knife. Tell us more about it. What all cutting chores have you done with it so far?

It sort of reminds of me of Spyderco's first Temperance model in some ways. But D-2 sounds like it would be a super outdoor blade to be sure.

The Fixed Griptilian is made in 154CM. I believe the D2 version is an exclusive for a famous outdoor gear retailer. :)

It was, although it seems Cabela's is dropping them.

Knifeworks.com now has D2 fixed Griptians though.

I'm pretty sure the fixed Grip is being discontinued altogether. That's probably why you are seeing some closeout prices.

I didn't much like it anyway; the grip just never felt quite right.

The Rant is a better knife overall IMO even though it uses 440C rather than 154CM.

They seem to be sold out now

Not sure about the famous outdoor store being sold out, but knifeworks is showing them as available in D2 and 154...the D2 is ~$75.
I'm assuming they still have them, Roger is usually pretty good about removing or noteing items out of stock. Simple call and Roger's girls can tell you if they are still in stock.

Only picture of sheath is with the black blade one, described as "Low Profile Ballistic Nylon". Pic is kinda small, looks like a fairly basic serviceable sheath.

The fixed Ritter Grip seems to have a much nicer handle than the conventional Benchmade version (which is identical to the one sold at that store except for the steel), but you pretty much have to buy one to be able to handle it and there is quite a premium for the Ritter version. Some day!

Too true, I want to like it and it's a good knife in most regards but for any real work the handle develops hot spots real quick. You probably won't drop it but you'll be on the way to forming some new and exciting calluses.
