Hey guys ,
what do you think of the Benchmade Fixed Griptilian ?
I have the foldr 550 HG and love it !
I'm wondering if the fixed is good for outdoor stuff like whittling, fish and game processing etc. ?
Since it's stainless I won't use it that hard - for cutting only :)
The price is excellent and I'm going to order it in the next couple of days :D

I got one in trade, gave it to my fiance, she loves it. used it fishing, ok, carried it fishing, she liked the grippy handle. I got the 154cm, and the salt water did put a little rust on the blade, but only after a couple days of her forgetting to rinse it, (she felt bad about that, but I fixed it no prob) I like that it feels very solid, and it should do most stuff well. one little thing is that the tang actually extends out around the handle a bit, its radiused, and feels Ok, but I'm not sure how it would feel in the cold. I also haven't done any heavy work with it, so I don't know if that would generate hot-spots

I'm going to get it in 154-CM.I really like that steel - quite stainless, easy to sharpen and holds a great edge

I have one that I use for longer hiking/backpacking because of it's light weight (4.7 oz). I modded mine by grinding down the jimping and thumb ramp to reduce the hot spots. But I wouldn't use it for extended wood work due to the nature of the grip.

But it is excellent for general camp duties and excels at food prep and in wet environments. I've also done some batoning with it with very little effect. It made me a big fan of BM's 154CM.

The molle sheath is very versatile as well. You can attach it to practically anything. Here's my lightweight backpacking combo:

I had one, and sold it, now I wonder.... It is a pretty good design....

Maybe I will just step up and buy it's rich cousin, the Ritter.

I had one of then fixed grips. I liked the weight, size, balance, and overall design. The price is great also. As gadgetgeek pointed out, the tang extends beyond the handle scales all the way around by about 1/8". This feature just felt weird to me when using the knife because it is unlike any other fixed blade that I have ever owned. It is not comfortable for extended use to me.

Because I really like the basic design of the knife, I ordered one of the Ritter Mk3 knives from www.aeromedix.com Yeah it's more money, but the handles are much more comfortable and the S30V steel is a step up also in my opinion. I also like the high flat grind and stone-washed finish on the Ritter version. The ballistic nylon sheath that comes with the Ritter is more substantial than the one supplied with the standard fixed grip, but still not my thing. I sent my knife to Brian at www.okuden.net for a custom kydex sheath with a Tek-Lok. I could not be happier with the result of the Ritter knife and the Okuden sheath. I am surprised that this knife does not get more comments on this forum.

Getting back to the basic 154CM fixed griptilian, I gave mine to my best friend after I got the Ritter version. He says that it is his favorite fixed blade when we go camping. It is a great value for the money. I prefer the Ritter Mk3 for the extra money, but you have to decide what fits your budget and intended uses. Both versions are great knives in my opinion.
