I have the folder so i was interested in the fixed blade version. When i actually held it at the store the blade seemed a little thin.
The website says 0.119". The folder is 0.115"
The blade is 4.16" long, does that seem a little thin for a fixed blade? It felt great but the thinner blade made me question how much abuse it would be able to go through as a work knife.
Also the 154cm steel seemed to have toughness issues according to this one website that reviews knives. http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sstamp/knives/blade_materials.html#S_154CM
Doesn anyone have this knife? What do you guys think about the blade thickness and steel?

It also said vg-10 had toughness issues though but i havent heard people ever complain about that on a spyderco? Eh

I really liked my Grip FB, but traded it when I found out that Doug Ritter and Benchmade are going to be releasing a FB Ritter Grip. The only thing I didn't like about the Grip FB was the sheath.

When will this doug ritter grip come out? Any pictures available yet?

So silent, the thiness of the blade didnt bother you? You seemed to really like it maybe i should ask for it for my birthday.

The official policy is we will no longer announce availability dates and will only make official annoucments when the knives are actually in stock. So, until they are physically in hand, I cannot say anything

Not exactly... I seem to recall that there was some information published about a commercially available survival kit that included some info and a photo slipped out that may have shown an early prototype.

Isn't there a big knife show coming up soon? Never know what might turn up there...

Knife shows dont come to hawaii very often :(
Critter, your involved in the project somehow i can see, time isnt a big problem, ill wait for a good knife. Im just curious if it will be a bit beefier in terms of blade thickness than the FB griptillian. Of not then i might just get the one available now. Or is that asking for too much info?

Just so im clear, EDC = emergency defense carry?

It has the right thickness to be a great knife.

The Nimravus is thinner and longer. Tell me: which knife works can´t be done with it?

I don´t know what you intend to do with it, but maybe you can say, wich works really make you worry about that knife.

You haven´t? I have!. But i would count all the things on the blade, not the steel. That means, a tougher steel would have bend in the cases, where a VG10 or any other high alloyd have been broken.

Let me just say that it is not a "sharpened prybar" like a Becker or Busse. If you consider the Fixed Grip too "thin," then this probably isn't the knife for you.

Every Day Carry

Hey Critter! I found the Doug Ritter Aviator Survival Kit with a listing for a Doug Ritter RSK MKIII Fixed Blade by Benchmade in S30V, and what looked very similar to the Fixed Blade Griptilian in the picture!!! When's this due out? I haven't seen anything, including from BLADE, regarding this new knife!!! Please tell me it's soon!

Doug Ritter's latest news (2006-06-27) from equipped.org forums regarding the fixed Rittergrip:

"The first few RSK Mk3s have been completed and I have signed off on it. I had one at Blade Show and Steve is doing the photography as we "speak." The first production run of serialized blades is in production. As soon as Aeromediix takes delivery, they will be available, but there will be no pre-purchase sales or availability until they are in stock and ready to ship. No more pre-order/delivery nightmares, than you very much. I am not allowed to even hazard a guess when that will be. So, please be patient a little bit longer. I think you'll find it worth the wait. "

In another post he said that the blade length is "4.5 inches".
