I always get carried away when I sharpen my knives. This time I put a 1/4 double edge on my medium size Ascent. The handle totally covers the sharp tip. It looks good with the BT blade. Everyone should start doing this, then maybe Benchmade will start making them like this at the factory. :D

The Mel Pardue would be perfect for doing this. You could sharpen the whole top edge instead of just 1/4 of the tip.

Except for the fact that in most states, a double edge knife isn't quite legal.
Matt:rolleyes:

The same goes for automatic knives...

But that doesn't keep them from making autos.

The point is, autos are made with many purposes in mind, and for people designated to use them. Not my preference, but the facts. In most states, if you are not one of the aforementioned, and you are in possession of one, you'll pay for it. The same thing goes for a knife with a double edge, which will be seen as a dagger. I just don't see this as advice for everyone to do as it is illegal. And at any rate, even if BM made a double edged knife, it would be released under the same limitations as an auto.

I'm not trying to sound anit-gun (I'm pro-gun; ALL Gun laws and the Auto/Bali laws aren't much better here) but it normal state (average gun restriction) you can carry a gun w/ permit concealed and it is realitvely easy to get. And you can possess just about any kind of gun as long as you meet the law abiding req. but you can't even possess a dagger or a switchblade / automaitic knife. I figured if anything you'd be able to have the auto (knife) and not the gun. But with a gun it's always easier to fight for the right to keep your auto (knife)!

On another note I might be moving to either Arizona, North Carolina or Oregon in the next few years... (very gun and KNIFE friendly).

But in Canuckia all knives are legal expect for Autos, Bali-songs (debate about that), and T-Daggers, Brassknuck knives and Pen/lipstick knives. But Daggers are completey legal!

Perfectly legal in MO (double edge not auto that is). See knifelaws .

Perfectly legal? Double edge in Missouri?

Missouri Case Law: Knife which was 7 to 8 inches long with a 4 to 5 inch blade could be found to be a 'dagger' and thus a 'deadly weapon'... (1982)

Actually, any fixed blade is illegal to carry in Missouri concealed.
Nearly anything can be carried in the open, in theory at least. The Kabar Dozier Thorn also goes into double edge very easily, and since it folds, should not be a dagger here?

Ironman is incorrect.

The benchmade 835 is a 3.5 inch blade pocket knife.

Missouri - Chapter 571, Weapons Offenses.
- 571.010. Definitions... (9) "Knife" means any dagger, dirk,
stiletto, or bladed hand instrument that is readily
capable of inflicting serious physical injury or death by
cutting or stabbing a person. For purposes of this
chapter, "knife" does not include any ordinary pocket
knife with no blade more than four inches in length...

Thus the benchmade 835 is not a "knife" according to MO state law. Note the lack of distintion between single and double edged blades.

The case law Ironman refers (note "4 to 5 inch blade") to is not relevent to 3.5 inch blade pocket knives.

A double edged blade is NOT legal to carry in MO. However, you can carry a fixed blade under the length of 4 in. I've looked into this quite a bit and it has been confirmed by my neighbor who is a LEO.
