Was thinking of buying my first Benchmade and was wondering what would be the best one to pick up for every day carry?

What are your typical tasks for your knives? Do you prefer bigger or smaller knives? More info will help recommendations. But in general, I would say yes, you will be able to find a Benchmade knife that will make you happy. Great knives!

BM 960 or 13960 (the Harley Davidson version of the same knife). Excellent EDC type blade. 2.2 ounces, 3.1" S30V blade, aluminum and g10 handles, axis lock. About $90 bucks at a certain online retailer.

Of course, with more details I could direct you a little better, but for most general EDC use I would recommend that one.

i have a benchmade presidio ultra brand new and a brand new benchmade auto stryker for trade if ur interested

Well the Para 2 is a pretty big blade for general EDC, so you could probably move to a BM 940 as well, its pretty similar to the 960, but a little bit bigger. The 710 is a 3.9" blade axis lock folder, but it carries really well for its size, and it has a great all purpose blade shape.

Benchmade 551 Griptilian or a 710. Can't go wrong with either.

mini-onslaught!!!! its sweet! super smooth, pretty light, lots of belly in the blade, but if your plan on doing any prying, this isnt the blade, the tip is crazy sharp, but fragile!

my first benchmade was a 530 and i still love that knife. light, slim, sharp, fast, and it looks good doing it too

This is my benchmade grip

I like the Rift, but I've never bought one. I've been using a 550HG Griptillian for 3 years now, and it's a superb knife. It cuts easier than my Delica, and holds an edge for a long time. The edge is also quite thin, though the angles are steep from the factory. I thinned it down to a 17 degree per side edge and maintained it with a 20 degree microbevel from the Sharpmaker. Even after thinning the edge angle down, it was still less than 0.015" at the top of the edge bevel. That's after many resharpenings on my 220/1000 waterstone. For whatever reason, it would also get very sharp with little effort. It would whittle hair after the 1000 waterstone. Most of my other knives could too, but they took a lot more effort and care while sharpening to get there. The 550 did it almost by accident.

707 Sequel. Great size for EDC. Perfect blade length and light weight.
The mini-Griptilian is also very comfortable in the pocket.
These are also affordable knives.

I like the 940 as a slim, less obtrusive EDC. The 710 D2 is one of my all-time favorite EDCs and is usually in my pocket if my Emerson Commander isn't.

Stay sharp,
desmobob

It doesn't really matter what you start with. You'll end up buying more.

I like the Mini Barrage. It's spring assisted.
