probably been asked before, but why doens't benchmade have a forum in the manufacturers section?

When you have your own forum you can control what is said about you and your products. Bladeforums is outside of manufacturers' control.

makes sense but if u censor everything it won't be the true voice of the people

It is a lot of effort to keep on top of a bunch of forums. Personally, I think having Benchmade here would be great, but they obviously think that having their own forum is good enough.

Another problem is that for some manufacturers anytime the forums get too rowdy or controversial they shut the forum down, edit posts, remove posts etc. Not all but some.

Culturally, not all firms may be ready for an open forum about their products

I don't see the point of having several forums for the same company. I mean really, we are talking about a click away to get to the benchmade forum.

It becomes a matter of maintaining a worthwhile prescence on however many forums you have out there..that being the case, why not limit yourself to one forum and focus all of your attention there and do the best you can.

Not to mention the repeat questions, topics, etc that abound even when you have just one forum, and never mind several...it gets old very very quickly, especially when you are the "johnny on the spot" who's job it is to repeat yourself several times a day.

I've never posted to the Benchmade forum because I've never been allowed to post there so I would assume that they haven't put a forum here because they would lose the ability to censor posts and prevent some people from participating. Some companies have nothing to fear from an open and public forum. Others do. Take care.

You can make all the excuses for Benchmade you want, Spyderco has several open forums. They are all very active and the level of input from the company is very good. Take a poll of how many BF members are banned from Benchmade forums. How many from Spyderco? I like Benchmade in many ways, but I can't help but see when it is obvious that they will not accept any views they don't like.

All I know is Benchmade wont give me permission to post there, they deny my app every time I apply. And I dont mean give me permisson to sell or advertise there, wont let me on at all.

Just because a manufacturers has a forum here on BF do not think that the manufacturer does not have the ability to delete threads or posts or control the forum to at least some degree. I know for a fact that at least one of them has deleted threads and posts on several occasions that I know of personally just for pointing out/asking about the differences in old/new models and poking fun at delivery dates that come and go.... So I would say that not all of these forums are "open". As far as benchmade, they did buy a group of BF members lunch at Blade this year, and they were very open to comments .....
