Benchmade future model plans?

Has anyone noticed that about 1/4 knives on the website are now discontinued? And not just old ones that should have been off the site ages ago, but brand new models discontinued all of a sudden! And favorites like the 921 that are only a year or two old...?
Please tell me they plan on making more new knives instead of just sticking with models they know sell. And I hope the NRA and HK knives are the "new knives" to be spoken of, I want butterflies on my blades!:D

They've taken all the models that i like and planned to purchase and discontinued them. Thats 5 models. All of their new knives arent too appealing to me especially their HK line which them seem to be paying too much attention to. I hope they do come up with some better designs or I might be spending money on other companies. :o

I feel the same way. The Benchmades I like are the less tactical looking knives, and they seem to be the ones that are disappearing...

Guy

When they discontinued the AFCK, the regular 154CM 710, and the 73x Ares I decided to not buy anything else from them. The've not come out with anything to replace them. I'm not interested in a D2 710. The 720 was great as was the 721 and 722. The ones left stink. The Rukus is too large for daily use.

Later Benchmade.

I used to consider bm as my top knife company, but I have drifted over to spyderco lately. They simply have better designs in my opinion. The 806 remains my favorite knife, but...it's gone. It seems bm is very interested in multi-colored handles and such as of late. Not me. They DO have the axis though, and that's a great thing.

I really like Benchmade knives but for the last two years they haven't introduced anything new that excited me with the exception of the 440 Opportunist.

I seriously looking at getting one of those Nemesis Imps.

The only BM I'm planning on buying is the Skirmish and thats it. I really wanted the 806 but was too late for it.

Same here! Whatever new models they plan on introducing, I hope they're smart enough to re-start offering reversible clips for tip-up and tip-down carry. At least the folks over at Spyderco were intelligent enough to figure out that a choice of carry positions would result in more folks buying their knives.

Some of us really do prefer tip-down carry..... Some of us remember what Benchmade was like before the Axis-lock conquered every model they had, except for the Stryker. Benchmade might get back some of those customers, if they started giving us a choice with more of the popular models. Instead of just, "Tip-up..... take it or leave it!" Okay..... I'll be over at the Spyderco display.

*Hint, hint...... Nudge, nudge*

Well, which ones are they cancelling now?

Companies move on, try to expand, etc. Cerebral.

I will admit I'm not overly enthused with the direction they are going, but then again I've noticed a propensity of a number of people on "planning to buy" knives, then only doing so when the production stops (done it myself, that "aw crud, better get it now"). Planning to buy doesn't keep a business in the black.

But, in the end, as I can only afford so many knives; a couple of BMs, a couple of Spydercos, a couple of this and that and I'll be out of money, so a few less "want" is OK.

BTW - how are Military contracts affecting their output and decisions? Anyone know?

I actually got a new 154CM 710, found at a store, love it. But the only other models I've bought recently are two classics, the 551 and 556 blue. Love those. Just got a 32 also...not sure about it...

Strange thing about Benchmade is that they have a tendency to "play their cards close to their chest."

Not much on the propogation of product info or future plans.

So did I a couple of weeks ago. I love it as well.

Is it just me or does most of the discontinued knives seem to be out of the american made blue line of knives?

You don't suppose we are seeing a shift of their manufacturing overseas to Tawain?

I certainly hope that isn't what is happening!
