Anybody else fired up about this one? The original version was my first decent folding knife years and years ago.

Benchmade almost always tries to do to much with their Gold class knives. Lots and lots of premium materials, but little to no design cohesion.

I mean really, why not keep it simple, classy, and high quality? Say, 710 with Ti handles and premium steel (or damascus, as that seems to be BM's gold class signature ") ? Price it at $350-400 and keep those lasers dialed down to .0005 accuracy (;)).

Going off that point, I've never seen a knife in carbon fiber and wood that looked good to me. They're both nice but too dissimilar or something to look good together. It always seems over the top. Am I alone in that?

This is probably the best looking one I've seen actually, since the wood is darker, but I think it'd look better in all wood or all carbon fiber.

The blue inlaid butterfly seems out of place, too. Going back to what darthsoaker said, it's adding another element (color) that just makes the design more complicated, more over the top, in a way that makes it lose cohesion. Now, if they had inlaid a butterfly in damascus like Spyderco did with the bolster on their special edition Delica (http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/5416/25th064912fc4zy7.jpg), that would be awesome--because it'd add to the design that didn't feel out of place, given that it'd be the same colors as the rest of the knife, and the blade is damascus.

I think it's great, and I would buy it."IF" and only if it didn't have that gaudy blue circle messing everything up.

:thumbdn: Desert ironwood and carbon fibre should never, ever be used together on a knife!

All CF would look so much better.

..and stick some thumb studs on it, give it a drop point and call it 813 :D

I personally think it's one of the best looking gold class they've produced... wonder if it will be a keeper :-)

I love it, and was the first person to order it from one of our forum sponsoring dealers. To me, the whole point of gold class is to be over the top.

Those who complain about MSRP need to remember that knife MSRP has nothing to do with actual selling price.

it's the knife that won't die. I wonder why they don't just bring it back for full production.

Often wonder the same thing. I know the AFCK thing was the
subject of some legal controversy, but I would buy a six-pack of
them immediately; easily my favorite folding knife.

you know ive never been much of a fan for benchmade but seeing the (what i assume) regular AFCK its on my wishlist

I'd love to see the a Special run of 812 in M390 steel. Like a Mini Shot Show Special 800.

The two 91's threw me off for a minute too.... quite an observant bunch.

So anybody else order one of these?

Again, over the top and lacks cohesion. Just throwing a bunch of nice stuff together ain't make it nice.
