Benchmade Gold Class Opinions?

Well I've now had a chance to see two Gold Class knives in person at a local dealer, a 525-81 and the new 480-91. I love Benchmade and those are some beautiful pieces of cutlery but I'm not sure about pulling the trigger quite yet.

I'm wondering what everyone else's opinions have been on the Gold Class offerings over the years. Does anyone think they are actually on the same level as custom knives?

I think they're ridiculously overpriced versions of the regular production knives.

At the very least, the ones I've handled have been just on par with their regular counterparts. It seemed to me that all the price goes to the flashy materials used, and not an increase in fit and finish.

JMO of course, YMMV.

i have owned and handled several of BM's gold class models. i couldn't disagree with the above anymore. the fit and finish were extremely high in the samples i have seen. however, i think they have gone gold crazy and are putting out too many models with too high a pricetag on them. great collectors pieces and i sold each at a profit.

The "gold" series knives I've handled have been of the best possible fit and finish... they are REALLY expensive considering you can get the same design in a Blue or Black class knife, but if you handle one, there is an obvious BIG difference in the hand finished outcome of the gold class... personally, I'd get a Sebenza or the like before a gold BM.
