Hey guys. Just got a cabelas version in d2. Disassembled the blade, cleaned up the washers and changed the clip to a matte black clip. Got the pivot so it has no blade play but it's very stiff. It's cleaned and oiled well. Do they ever break in?
 
Yes, they do, if it's PB washers, there's no need for oil, except along the tang and the omega springs contact points.

I'd also recommend adjusting the pivot, sounds like you might be too tight, so I'd recommend that you loosen the screw by increments or degrees. 1/32 of a turn or about 4°, the smaller the action the more you can gauge where the sweet spot is.

Also if it's D2 it is a coated blade, I think... did you notice if the tang was coated or not?

If they coated the tang I recommend a flat surface and wet/dry sand paper, 600 to removed the coating and maybe 1500 to 2000 to semi polish the surface.
 
Yes the tang is coated. My 154cm unbiased blade was amazingly smooth. This one is at it's sweet spot, just not as quick as my uncoated. If it'll break in with time I'll just leave it.
 
That will take a while, and if you're okay with that, more power to ya! :)

I'd at least run over the coating with 2000 grit paper on a flat surface, 5-10 minutes and should be smooth, including tear down and build up of the knife, but that's my preference.
 
For what it's worth, my Cabela's D2 Mini-Griptillian was silky smooth, zero play and 'flickable' from day one.

I don't know if the tang is coated or not.

Took it apart today. Dremeled down the coating then used 600 grit wet sand paper and cleaned up the washers. A bit of oil and put it back together. It feels smoother, but still not as silky smooth as my non coated blade.
 
I wish i got a plain edge to begin with, i love this knife. Kind of hesitant to keep it on me at work, but i use it all the time at home.
 
It should be fine in a few days. I have one and its the best damn EDC i have. Just give it time. You shouldnt be disapointed.
 
I miss my mini grip. Somewhere there is a MLB security guard rocking my confiscated blade. It was in d2 w the green handles. I'd buy another if it weren't for the plastic scales...
