Hey guys, I got myself two different mini griptilians this week and had a question. One version is the olive drab hollow ground with an oval shaped opening hole. I guess this was the original design before they got approval for the round opening hole, is that right? Anyways, is this version somehow more valuable or rare? I wanted to carry one of the two for edc, the other being a blue hollow ground round open hole plain edge. So far I love this knife and it is one of my favorites in my collection, I really want to get the full size version in different colors too. I am just upset to see that the prices on the griptilians and mini grips have skyrocketed in the past few months..

thanks

The Mini Grip with the oval opening hole has a flat sabre grind, the round hole variant has a hollow sabre grind.

I prefer the round opening hole, but wish that they had retained the flat grind.

I have quite a few Mini Grips in my collection, but prefer the thumb stud variants to the holes.

I would think the blue is more rare but that neither one is worth any more than the current Griptilian prices.

the oval hole version has the letter BK underneath the 154cm stamp, what does that stand for?

BK is the designation for the type of coating on the black blade.

"BK1 ® COATING: BK1 coating is a matte black coating that provides excellent corrosion protection, which exceeds the ASTM-117 spec for saltwater while possessing higher scratch resistance"

ahhhhh, thanks Steve.. I am sitting here flipping these mini grips using the axis lock but don't let go in time and the blade bounces back down :p

flicking open with the oval version hole is a bit annoying

I just love the feel of these though, really solid click and lockup and they sit so naturally in your hand... must get orange/sand/yellow versions next

Id invest in either a wilkinsgrip or a cuscadi scale job if you really like the mini griptilian.

Cuscadi made me a nice set of cocobolo scales for my mini-grip.
I can definitely recommend them!
