I was looking for a Benchmade Griptilian and saw that Cabela's has an exclusive one made with D2, is there much of a difference from the normal one of 154cm?

D2 is a harder steel that holds an edge longer but is less stainless than 154CM D2 is a little harder to sharpen . Just got a mini in D2 cant go wrong with this knife .

I have had one for awhile now and love it, a great edc. I have not had to sharpen it yet, but don't look forward to it lol D2 is tough to sharpen D2 is also harder than 154cm, so it is more prone to chipping, but I have not had a problem with this and probaly won't during any edc tasks

Havent had any problems glad i got some DMT stones for when i do have to sharpen it

I prefer the harder Grip steels (D2,S30V,M2,CPM M4) to the stock 154CM knives, but they are great too.
The standard blades have the advantage that they are uncoated, which I generally prefer, although I accept that knives that are more prone to corrosion are probably better off coated.
I haven't found D2 to be difficult to sharpen.

if you know where to look the 154cm version is much less expensive all things considered.

however, D2 is good stuff and I prefer it to 154cm without question. Either way I would reprofile the edge to 30 degrees inclusive when I got it.

Dont buy a D2 grip. They tend to come dull as hell from the factory. The 154cm is way easier to sharpen, and takes a much keener edge in my personal (and also noobish) opinion. If you have your heart set on a D2 grip, I'm selling a mini one that is brand new, and has never cut anything.

If you keep the steel sharp (occassional touch ups) it never gets dull. No real sharpening skills needed with todays awesome sharpeners. Sharpmaker is a great tool.
