I am new to knife collecting, so please excuse me if this is a newbie question. Looking at the pictures of BenchMade Griptilians online at various places, I often see sand colored handles that are multi-colored. As an example, here is the picture of a Mini Grip that I ordered from KnifeWorks:

To my eyes, that is definately a multi-colored handle, not a plain color (other pictures can be found that show this multi-coloring better than this one). Here is the Mini Grip that I received from KnifeWorks:

Definitely a single color tan handle, not the handle that is pictured. After I complained to KnifeWorks about this, they changed the pictures of the sand Mini Grip on their site. But their site is not the only site where I have seen these multi-colored sand handles pictured. So, what is up with this? Are the multi-colored handles an older version? A new version? A version that never existed anywhere but in pictures? If anyone can clear up my confusion on this, it would be much appreciated!

I don't think it is the lighting, because I have seen many pictures (most I would say) of the sand grips that have that multi-color sand look. (Though, apparently, those are black Noryl grips with a sand skin coating, from what I understand from the thread I referenced...)

I don't think they exist. I think it is just the lighting.

To me, that doesn't at all appear multi-colored, maybe that's just me tho...

Not trying to be hard on ya, or call you wrong, IDK maybe its that I browse exclusively on my phone screen but I just fail to see how that pic could be construed as the scales being 2 colors. Now your pic OTOH appears, because of shadows, to be darker at the rear. But again even on m tiny phone screen my eyes can easily detect any color variation is lighting releated.

Hello,

It just looks like Knifeworks has an old picture on their website. We used to coat those handles to get the sand color, but have since changed to Sand colored plastic material. The augering screw and heat zones in the machine make it essentially impossible for our process to get multi-colored plastic, unless the colorant doesn't bond to the plastic properly.

Hopefully that helps answer most of your question!

The handle in my pic definitely looks darker than it should because I took it on my phone without a flash, I can't dispute that. However, to my eyes at least, just about every site selling the tan handles has pics of multi-colored handles. Also, as I say, KnifeWorks changed their pictures, at least of the BM556BKSN that I ordered, after I questioned this. They still have the multi-colored handle pictures of the other tan versions.

(Oh, hadn't read whole thread before starting to respond :foot:. Thanks for the explanation BenchMade, Strange that so many sellers haven't updated their pictures though...)
