Benchmade Griptilian vs Benchmade 580 barrage.

Both would be great but i prefer the griptilian, the main difference is manual vs assisted, the barrage is heaver too

Both are good knives. The Grip will be lighter to carry and will cost you a little less. The 520 is a good knife also but heavy and a the scales eat up pockets when using the clip. The Grip is a good working knife if that is what you want a knife for.

I like the blade shape of the Grip the best. All of them would be good for EDC depending on your preference of blade shape.

I have the mini versions of all three knives. These are of course not the same as the large versions. All are good, but I tend to use the mini griptilian the most. I use the mini-barrage the least because if the loud assisted opening. It's also the fattest. The mini presidio ultra has a nice grip and feels safe because the tip of the blade rests so deep inside the handle when closed. On my knives the mini griptilian has the least play. My mini presidio has quite a bit of side to side play and the mini barrage has a tiny bit of vertical play. I've taken all the knives apart for cleaning. All are easy to take apart, but despite having the most components, the mini barrage is the easiest to put back together (once you figure out how). The presidio is also easy, but has a scew going into a freely spinning stop pin. The mini grip is a bit tricky because the pivot has to be inserted through the scale and liner at the same time. But that doesn't matter much, since you don't take them apart that often. I just came to think of it since I took the mini barrage apart for the first time the other day

In the mini versions I rank the grip the highest and the barrage the lowest when it comes to actual use, which is funny because I thought it would be the other way around before owning them. I like them all, though.

Wait....what?

So it's grip vs. barrage vs. presidio ultra now???

Well, he did say in the OP that he was also considering the Presidio, so I think he's just updating that to reflect that it's the Presidio Ultra he's after.

I own a full sized Grip and Presidio Ultra, and owned (past-tense) a Mini-Barrage. I find the Grip and Presidio Ultra to be excellent knives, and while I think the Grip is better suited to harder use, the Presidio Ultra fits my hands better, so I rotate them. The Mini-Barrage was too small for my tastes, and the scales offered limited grip, so I traded it. Seemed like a solid little knife, but I don't miss it much, if that says anything. Try to hold both, if you can, but neither is a bad choice!

Actually, no he didn't. Three and a half hours after opening a Benchmade Griptilian vs Benchmade 580 barrage thread, he added the Presidio stuff.

Just must have popped into his head!

Have you considered a Bone Collector?

The Barrage is a good knife; with the assisted feature it opens with a resounding thud. The only thing I didn't like was the safety lock. This adds another step when opening the knife.

The safety can be turned either on *or* off, so it doesnt add any steps when opening the knife unless you want it to... If I had to choose I'd take the Grip over the 580 Barrage. Its way faster and easier to get it out, use it, and put it back in your pocket than the barrages. Its the PERFECT size and shape for my hands; its such an intuitive design! That being said, I choose the 581 Barrage over the Grip because its sexy enough to justify being slightly clunky and a little harder to use.

Basher is right, i originally said presidio, but changed it to the ultra when i realized the presidio is a 150$ knife, and the ultra was the one i was looking at.

Guess I'm having a hard time keeping track of the subjects being discussed in your "vs" threads.

how many knives do you expect me to buy? i want ONE. so its gotta be the right one.

Everyone here has more than one knife. If you care so much, you will have more than one knife.

I beg of you, just buy something already. Or at least don't start a new thread each time a new knife pops into your head. That stuff ended poorly for some guy a couple months ago. People tire of it.

Get the Griptilian. People seem to like it. Simple.

Sorry JackAColeman, should have explained.
I was thinking of the same person Marcinek mentioned

He posted and asked the same as you only on steroids so to speak

Suggestion: Rather than start multiple threads and get a bad rap like the last guy, perhaps liberal use of the search button would reveal other threads addressing the same question? It's sure come in handy on my end, as it has for the past 10 years I've been using internet forums, etc. ;)
