I'm relatively new to the knife scene. I currently have a Spyderco Military but am looking for something a tad smaller to carry at the office but is very utilitarian, and will hold an edge. I save the tough field work to one of my fixed blades (SOG or K-bar). I don't want to pay more than $125'sh for a knife but want something of value that one day I might be able to pass down to the kiddos. Looking at all the knives available is somewhat sensory overload. Pls advise even if it isn't one of the ones in the title.

The Emerson is a fine knife that'll last forever. It's thinner overall (grips) than the Benchmade, so it carries easier. I won't get rid of mine.

If you like the Military you may like the Para Military as well. The new model (para 2) can be found for less then $125 and is a pretty awesome knife.

out of your choices..Benchmade all day. emerson is a good knife but imo overpriced.
BENCHMADE EMERSON
axis lock is strongest there is linerlock point Benchmade
154cm blade steel 154cm tie
thumb hole/stud thumb disk/wave point Emerson only for the wave if non waved....Benchmade
availability=readily available any configuration not readliy available however as of late some online retailers have stock point Benchmade
PRICE you can get 2 for the price of an emerson good luck finding a new cqc 7 under 150 point Benchmade

i am sure i missed some stuff but you get the jist. if it was me i would get the grip out of those two choices....HOWEVER if it was me and it recently was, i would go for the SPYDERCO PM2....just my two cents.

If the people at your office aren't knife people the 7 will freak them out. Very tactical looking. A mini A-100 from Emerson would be less intimidating. The Griptillian is a good edc but I'd opt for a D2 version as a personal preference or the Ritter version in S30V.

Emersons are not a good value knife for the money.

Check out the ZT 350. Great knife. Lots of great Spydercos and Benchmades at your price point too.

I suggest a Spyderco Native. If you want something really nice, the carbon fiber version should be within your price point.

vote for benchmade. Emersons are fantastic knives but rather expensive.
The 154cm blade steel on the benchmade is about the same quality, at least from what I've seen.

If you like the wave feature just unscrew the thumb studs if your model has it.
Then tie a cable tie on the spine through the thumb hole or thumb stud hole (very common mod)

Check out the Ritter Grip. Its more expensive than the regular griptilian but its worth it IMO.

I would prefer the benchmade over the CQC7 for EDC use. Its more practical with its blade shape. Also, its much cheaper than the emerson.

CQC-7 for me. Can't stand the cheap plastic handles on the Benchmade. I have one sitting in my drawer that I've tried to carry and use but can't get past the handles. Plus the CQC carries better in my pocket. I have a CQC-7 on the way.

Regarding the steel in both. There is a difference in Rockwell hardness. You should research this a little bit. IMO, since I have reviewed both, the Benchmade's 154cm is a better performer. Both are easy to sharpen after practice, especially if you can already sharpen S30V.
