are the gripitilian knives assisted opening knives?? im assuming no since i just got mine in and it is not assisting in my opening.... :(

Benchmade's 'assisted axis' is quite new and currently only incorporated in the 580 Barrage and a few sprint runs. However, as others have mentioned, the Axis design is such that an assist technically hinders its full potential. The beauty of this lock is its ability to quickly deploy and close the blade; it works both ways with the standard Axis. With the assist, however, the blade cannot be closed, efficiently, with one hand as the assist springs hold it in place even when the lock is released.

A properly adjusted Axis lock should deploy just as quickly and easily as an assisted model AND close twice as fast. Quite the design, in my opinion.

I went through the "novelty" of assisted openers and have 3 Kershaws that are assisted openers. They generally stay in the knife drawer and I carry my traditional pocket knives for EDC and my Benchmades the rest of the time. I think the griptilians and Bone Collectors are great knives. I've seen a bunch of others that I would like to try, but the Grips are super EDC's (for modern knife designs).

P.S. - I know assisted opening is not a "novelty" to a lot of you folks. But, for me it was a novelty that I tried and moved on.

I have five Griptillians and none of them assisted openers. Great knives though. I have one in my jacket pocket now.

ok i think that with a little practice and if i loosen up the tension a bit, it will be all good. but does benchmade make any assisted openers? i know they make the automatics but those are not available to the general public.

ya check out the nitrous stryker

try loosening the pivot screw a bit with a torx and you will see the full potential of the griptilian. also check out the bone collector series, basically a nicer materials version with a bit more weight

They do make assisted openers, but A/O's are more of Kershaw's thing IMO. Also, the auto knives are available to the general public, but many dealers won't sell one to you if you live in a state where they're restricted.
