So, I've owned a grippy for almost a year now, with not much use as i mainly carried my SRKT m16-03 aluminum, but i played with it a lot. Well, i notice when i shake it i hear a rattling. I've traced it down to the spacers in the handle, one where the blade stop is and one towards the back. Is this normal? I don't abuse the knife or anything, and it was fairly stiff when i bought it. Do they just wear in? What are your thoughts on the knife as an EDC? How does it hold up? I'm not crazy about combo edges but i got it for 100$ at the local outdoors store and i figured i'd give combo a try, even though i prefer PE. But there isn't much serr. so i dont mind. Thanks in advance!

The rattling is probably the washers on the axis bar. which is common. It is a great knive for EDC.

It's the spacer above the axis bar which when the blade opens it stops on that rattles the worst. Just a little rattle, but audible none the less.

You have a Grip and you're still carrying that CRKT M16? :D

To each his own, I suppose---I much prefer my Griptilians over anything that Columbia River makes (I liked their Crawford Kasper large-sized folder, but I believe it was discontinued). The Griptilian is very ergonomic, has a rock-solid lock, and has a nice blade, especially if you get the RSK Mk1 or Mini versions that were designed by Doug Ritter.

I suggest you try to fit it into your rotation more often, it takes a bit of time to truly appreciate it!

I have regulars in 154CM and the Cabela's model in D2, as well as the BM/Doug Ritter RSK Mk1 in S30V. All have held up extremely well as hard-use knives in my EDC rotation.

When i EDC a knife and end up liking it it never leaves my pocket. Mines bit me once when the thumb stud got stuck on my pocket and the blade opened up. Tip up carry scares me now lol.

Ah the infamous Griptilian rattle.

A few of my Grips' had that when new, it's the stop pin sleeve. Some folks put a tiny drop of loctite on it to make it quit, but of all mine that did it, all but one, it went away on it's own with use.

Don't sweat it.

So it's a good edc? Anything ever fail? What have you guys done to it and how often do you sharpen? I have a 6 yr old spyderco sharpmaker (with VHS lol). I've mainly used my Vic Super Tinker and M16 for EDC. How's it hold up to abuse?

I carried a 551 for three or four years before giving it to my little brother. I now carry a Benchmade Kulgera.

But, when I carried the 551, I used and abused it. It traveled with me cross country, and even into Canada! But, the main use was when I was a general laborer for a residential construction company. It held up to cutting boxes, rope, concrete bags (Often through the crap inside the bag). I sharpened it every so often when I swung by the knife store in my local mall (before I was as much as a knife head as I am now).

Now the irony is, I work in that knife store and sell a ton of Grips to people. I sharpened up the store model today to a hair popping edge on our sharpener in store (the round crock stick version of the Sharp Maker).

As an EDC I loved it. I wear looser pants and it fit very well in my pocket. Never had issues with it breaking down at all, and overall, one of the best knives I ever bought.
