Benchmade Griptillian or Adamas 275?

Does anybody have any information on the durability of these two knives? I'm in the market for a new knife and these two are what I have narrowed my choices down to. I know the 275 has D2 steel, which to some is better than 154cm, but I'm worried I may not be able to re-sharpen it back to the way it was. Also I use a folding knife a lot, both in work and at home and I'm generally pretty hard on 'em. So, if you have any experience with either of these knives or have a recommendation for a better knife under 200 let me know. Thanks!!

Both are excellent hard use knives, the adamas is quite a bit bigger though. That would be my only criteria when deciding, both blade steels are easy enough to sharpen.

The Griptilian is a fine knife but the Adamas is quite a different animal. It's big, heavy and damn near bombproof. If you want something that will take abuse and ask for more it's the Adamas.

The Adamas is a MUCH better knife in my opinion. I have both and im not a big fan of the Griptilian.

The Griptilian is pretty tough for its weight, with the thinner blade it will slice (cutting deep enough the blade passes through the material), fits medium size hands well.
The Adamas' blade is nearly twice as thick, the AXIS lock 25% larger = stronger, its noticeably heavier, I think the handle is more comfortable, I think it fits large size hands better. It will take longer to sharpen, not because D2 is extremely difficult to sharpen, but because the blade is thicker, you will have to take off more steel to get it to a 30 degree (or whatever your preferred angle of sharpening/reprofiling) so it'll just take awhile longer, but won't be overly difficult.

This is like asking if you should get an Abrams tank or a sedan. :p

I have an Adamas, it fits well in the hand, opens nicely, looks nice, cuts good, is strong, and to me, isn't as heavy as everyone says it is. But it is slightly bulky, which to me is it's only con
So I would say get the Adamas over the Grippy. As an added bonus, they donate some of the money from the purchase to the Ranger Assistance Foundation.
Either way, you can't go wrong with either knife.

I've had a Grip early on and sold it. It was, and is, a nice knife. It is not, however, in the same category as the 0275 Adamas. This knife is big, heavy, and probably indestructible under "common" usage. Heck, you could beat on it and it would likely still hold up longer than you could. I have two of the Adamas, the original black and a newer tan, and I'm very impressed.

I've got both and they are excellent, although quite different in some aspects.

The Griptilian is much lighter than the Adamas, and so carries better in thin fabric pants. The blade is also thinner, with a higher grind, so it slices better. It's a good jack of all trades, it will flex into many different roles and do almost anything you might need a pocket knife for.

The Adamas is a lovely design, smooth as butter and with a fantastic feel in hand (I have big hands). It's very tough, but since it's thick and heavy it doesn't fit into some pants very well (think dress pants and so on). It does cut well, but the blade and grind are thick.

The steel on both is good enough, sharpening shouldn't be a problem. If you don't have a versatile folder that you can EDC in most situations (like an Endura, a Blur, etc.), I'd recommend getting the Griptilian first since you'll probably use it more often. Otherwise, the Adamas would be my choice.

I have an affinity for my Adamas. Can't speak about the Grip, other than hearing many positive opinions by forum members.

I have had both but if your looking for better steel on the grip there are other models with upgrade steel, the adamas is a beast.

I would go for Adamas. I dont wanna always advertise Contego but if you look for a hard use folder which has a bit smaller handle and a better steel than Adamas, it would be a great choice.

Thanks for all of the info! I've handled a grip before and I wasn't really a fan. I think the Adams will work just fine!

Second vote for the Contego as being most of what an Adamas is while being more pocket friendly like a Grip. The M4 steel is the bomb, ergo's are very good (jimping bugs some but is easily tamed if so), deep carry clip makes it carry "smaller", narrow butt makes it easy to reach past it into your pocket - it is a very usable design.

Adamas all the way. The Contego, especially the M390 version with blue/black G-10 scales is another knife to take a look at.

Far as sharpening goes, it is much easier to keep it sharp than it is to let it go to full dull then sharpen it. I leave my Sharpmaker set up with the fine stones, and after about a week of light use I will hit it about 10 strokes each side.
