Hi, new guy here. While looking for a decent EDC I was recommended the Benchmade Griptilian, which I purchased.I love almost everything about this thing.......except the grip.I'm afraid I'm gonna' break it(ran across a post elsewhere on the internet where a guy did just that, falling off his bicycle).I was shown a Rift at the shop where I bought the Griptillian. This particular place had the Griptilian at MSRP, for some reason the rift was twice that. The Rift can be had for far less on the net (so can the Griptilian, but there is a reason I got it where I did). The Rift seemed pretty solid, same price range as a Wilkins G-10 grip for Griptillian.Anybody have any suggestions or experience with these?Any input would be appreciated.

They feel cheap but the odds are very low that you'll actually break them. The Grip is a great little knife and in your case I would keep it and get a Rift to accommodate it. The Wilkins Grips are excellent quality but for the money I'd rather just get an additional knife.

I think the Grip is plenty tough. I have a Rift, and its very nice. The G-10 scales may be stronger, but it's also heavier than a Grip.

IIRC, a Rift is less expensive than a Wilkens/Grip kit, plus it's a whole knife. I've had a full size Wilkens/Grip & a Rift. If $ is no object, I liked the Wilkens/Grip better. I do prefer the Rift over a standard Grip, so I guess it depends.

I think someone already said it, why not get a Rift, too & then if you feel a need to upgrade your Grip, get the Wilkens kit.

Personally, had I kept my Wilkens/Grip, I would've tried to pick up a Grip in S30V, D2, or possibly the M2 model. That would've been a sweet folder.

FWIW, I ended up getting a Graham Bros. SS3 Razel for the Wilkens/Grip.

Thanks for the input guys.I actually found a Rift for sale NIB shipped, for less than I paid for the Griptilian ($90.00), in the exchange part of the forum.Guy has lots of good feedback on his transactions so I just bought it.The store was one of those places where you pay premium, but the msrp wasn't to to bad on the Grip.It does have good support, and you can see these things up close and personal.....I actually handled a Rift there..but wanted $190.00 for it.Maybe a Ritter S30V with a Wilkins...someday.I do really appreciate the input.Down the road in the nearer future I'll probably be looking for a good hard use outdoor fixed blade, maybe a Fallkniven or something along those lines.

Congrats, and welcome to BF Mr. Jones . I've got my eye on a Ritter Wilkins grip/mini-grip too, sometime down the line.

I'm very happy with my Rift. It has a very thin edge for excellent slicing and is very smooth and strong. I hate having to remove the thumb studs every time I sharpen (I like thin angles), but the knife performs pretty good as a good size, good cutting EDC with adequate edge retention.

I've never had a Grip, but had a Rift, and loved it. It is a very smooth Axis lock and the handles really felt good to me. I ended up selling it last year but hope to replace it with the newer one....all black handle. Hope you like it when you get it!

Got the Rift a few days ago.Really, really good folder. Best of both worlds.Nice to own some Benchmades again.Always liked 'em (the thumb studs come off?).Thanks again for the recommendations.
