Ok, I am looking to pick up one of these.

What do you think about the serrated edge? Does it leave enough of the plain edge to be useful?

Anyone with a plain that wished they had serrated? Anyone with serrated that wished they had only plain?

All opinions are welcome!

Thanks for the help.

Hey Nathanial,

I don't have a serrated Benchmade, but in my experience with serrated/plain combos, I'd have to say that I'm not a fan. They need to be sharpened at different times, they get in the way of each other, and there's only a little bit of each blade. For cutting things like rope and boxes i suppose they would be a fine marriage of styles, but for general usage I prefer one or the other.

Good luck, and you can't go wrong with a Benchmade. :)

I'm guessing by your avatar you're a diver?? I'd say for that, it's a great knife. It's made to be a water knife, and in my experience there's a need for both smooth and serrated blades underwater. The only thing I don't like is that there isn't a line cutter, but on the other hand it's a Benchmade, it should be able to take care of that anyway. .

Oh, and all of my BM's have serrations. Doesn't bother me a bit.
