The HD knives category is now gone from the Benchmade web site home page. Not sure when it disappeared but it was there the last I looked a couple of weeks ago IIRC. Anyone know who now has the HD knife contract? I hope that they have not shipped it to China.

I believe its gone for good.

I only bought one, the 13100 HD Hardtail.
As it reminded me of a Better Buck 110 with an Axis lock. :D

The HD line was slow from the start, unlike the machines they're named after. We have a very busy dealer right up the street from us and shortly after the line was introduced went in to ask if they were going to carry any models; they said no, the knives were too expensive. :foot:

The Hardtails were among the best, and I agree with MCM...they DO make a better Buck; If only there was an easy way to remove the HD logos from the thing...

I bought a 13100 and I like it. My wife carries a pink 13150.
The 13100 came as sharp as a butter knife so it's in the 'send to Lifesharp' pile.

I was glad to see the red class go and I'm not unhappy about the HD line being discontinued.

They were good knives but I could never really get into the HD logo on the blade. I think BM should have just kept it the Red Line or done away with it altogether.

I saw the value and appreciated a "budget" line from BM and was always very pleased, sometimes surprisingly so with the Red Line models. Vex, Pika, and Monochrome come to mind.

I have to say though. I've been pretty happy with some of the HK knives I bought but not so crazy about the current offering's.

Still may pick up a Hardtail one day.

The factory showroom had an HD that was left over from the factory sale. I liked the way it looked, but couldn't stand the HD markings on it.

They were a niche market to a relatively small niche. It's like the Porche or Ferrari road bikes that are made. I want to buy a bike that is proud to be a bike, and not "rebranded" to appeal to me in a non-bike related way.

If Benchmade had a Microtech or Busse collaboration, best believe I'd be on it like white on rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm at a KKK BBQ.

I bought the 13100 Hardtail too. IMO the best looking of the HD knives and I agree that it reminds me of the lines of the Buck 110 and the Schrade LB7 but with axis lock improvements and reduced weight due to using aluminum rather than brass. I have both the Buck and Schrade. In fact my Schrade is a first year serialized 4 digit serial number one, under S/N 5000 IIRC.

Seems strange to me that guys who buy a $10,000+ motorcycle think that a standard Benchmade knife is "too expensive". Some of the customized HDs that show up at Reno's Street Vibrations are more like $30K+.
