hi all this is my first time writing a review on something so bear with me. this review has been a long time coming as i bought this knife a while ago but have not had time to write a review so here it goes. out of the box the knife is packed well, it comes with care instructions, and a storage bag with hk on the side (i have found this bag useless but still nice to have around for other things).
from the factory the knife is extremely sharp i ended up cutting my self about 3 times in the first 30 seconds of having the knife without even knowing it, but i say u have to cut yourself with a knife to fully respect it.
the lockup is solid as a tank and i have not been able to make it fail with a spine whack yet. the action is soo seamless and silky that saying this just doesn't do it justice at all. the handle has rubber overmold grips on each side which before i got the knife i kind of worried that they would present a problem in pocket but i find that they do not and i love the rubber feel.
the knife is extremely comfortable in hand and you are able to choke up on it as well and it feels very comfortable.
overall this knife is a tank and is up for any challenge. i have a feeling it will never fail me

I have the 14205 and like it alot. The handle is pretty thin though wich makes it excellent for pocket cause it is a very heavy knife. After seeing these pics I wonder if I should have got the rubber handles 14200.

yeah i love the rubbers they are comfortable and they provide all kinds of grip and the rubber is not sticky so there is no problem in the pocket

Nice review of one of my favorite knives. This knife doesn't get the recognition it deserves IMO -- it is still a pretty well kept secret.

i agree when i was shopping for this knife there was not alot of knowledge on it so i made a review

I can guarantee that it will never fail you. I purchased one off of longbeachguy a while back. And it quickly became my favorite benchmade knife of all time. Matching up with my favorite para military from spyderco.

I put mine through hours of chopping and the lock never budged or loosened up over time. Enjoy, as it should last you years to come... with the lock up only getting better and better. Im sure you now want the updated model with g-10 scales. Thats what im waiting to have the funds for,
matt B.

The 14200 is one of my favorite BM designs, along with the 615 and 960. I'd be careful with the spine whacks, don't want to damage your pocket knife doing something it wasn't made for. It's definitely on my "eventually must have" list.

im not to worried about damaging it i bought it because it was built to take some abuse and i always say are u gona use it or buy it a dress

I have it's little brother the BM/HK 14210. Love it. Built like a tank. I am very impressed with the cm154 steel. Lock up is very solid. G10 handles are excellent.

I've also got a 14205 and agree with much of what's been written. I've used it hard, without damage, but I really wish they would build one without the swedge, for more tip strength... It's such a stout knife otherwise, I really think putting such a find tip on it limits it's usefulness... YMMV, of course. :)

i quite like the profile of the blade it offers enough strength i would prefer a tanto but it does quite well with prying ect

I have one just like yours and it's a nice knife, but they make it in a tanto as well.

I really should say made, as both models are now discontinued by Benchmade. As you can see if you want the tanto it's availability is limited to stock on hand and Benchmade no longer lists them at all.

yea at time of purchase i saw the tanto model but i didn't like the blade design. it is sad that bm has stopped making such a good knife tho they still offer the g10 version so people are not out of luck entirely

I have always wondered why the knife companies discontinue so many nice designs. I mean look at knives like the Spyderco Starmate, Large Persian, Large Manix and all the many others that BM and Spyderco have pulled. All I can figure is there's just so many interested knife buyers and once sales slow they move on to new designs to keep us buying. After all companies that tend to make the same stuff long term have been closing.

You're certainly welcome to do whatever you want with your knife, but you're mistaken if you think the knife was built to take spine whacking (depends on how hard). There's a reason why most companies would consider spine whacking like on the Cold Steel videos "gross abuse" and is not covered by their warranties.

So I disagree that just because i don't spine whack my knives, I must be babying them. Light spine whacking is fine from the makers perspectives, it's the super hard spine whacking that I'm referring to.

well u cant use em as a hammer hahah

I didn't like the bolsters or the rubber handles on the 14200. The minute the 14205 appeared I bought one and have been thrilled since. Yeah, it's heavy, but that's HeavyDuty. Smoothest Axis knife in my collection and came out of the box "scary" sharp and after stropping, even sharper!

I bought a 14250 a couple years ago, was by far my favorite EDC, and my first and only axis lock knife.....Untill I went to use it one day and the axis lock lever had no spring left in it, thought that was strange, and when I got home I tore it apart thinking that the sping might have jumped out of track and I might be able to fix it. No luck both springs were snaped right in the center. I used both sides of the lock to un-lock the blade, as I heard it was a good idea from others so I'm not really sure why it happened. I looked around on the net haven't heard of others with this problem but I've kind of been turned off to the axis system because of it. I don't know maybe I got a lemon. Anybody know where I might be able to get a couple new springs?

Aside from that awesome knife, I'll still hold on to it, I'm kind of a HK junkie, but it's been replace for EDC with the 14460BT Nitrous. Which is also a sweet knife, but that's for another thread. :)

Anyone know where I can 100% buy this knife. I can not find any vendor that has it in stock.....lots that advertise they do. I have been looking for some time now.

thanks.
