With all of the discussion about Benchmade knives on this forum, I've been really surprised to find that none of the knife stores around here have even HEARD of the brand. Does anyone know why this is? Is there just nobody importing them? This sounds like a business opportunity to me.

Hey Ragnarok37...

It's because those types of stores you are going to are a bunch of Yahoos..
These are the same stores that sell Chin made Strider Rip Offs, and crap like that...

Gotta deal with the right people,, and you will get the brands you want...
If you need help to get pointed in the right direction,, drop by the Canadian Connection forum.. Theres a lot of people that could possibly help you out..

I've purchased all of my Benchmades from the House of Knives, a Canadian retailer. The prices can seem ridiculous when you compare them to Internet retailers, but it sure beats having your knife confiscated by Customs.

So somebody does sell them here. That doesn't help me much, though. I like to handle a knife before I think about mail ordering it. None of the stores in my area have them. Does anybody know a store in Edmonton that stocks them?

I just got a Benchmade 710 from Knife Zone out of Regina. they don't carry them in stock but will order them from the U.S. for you. it took 3 months to get but Benchmade are hard to find in Canada. They don't charge you for the knife untill they get it in Regina. Then they will ship it out to you to you using Canada post Expedited.
hope this helps.

where can i get a strider rip off.

There is a House of Knives in Edmonton in the Kingsway Garden Mall. They do carry a decent selection of Benchmades. It seems unlikely, but some military surplus stores might have Benchmades available. Wish I could help more, but I haven't lived in Edmonton for 9 years now, I'm a little out of touch.

Klondike Arms (now called something else, I can't remember) in Edmonton has a few BenchMades.
Also Milarm http://www.milarm.com/ is a good place to get Spyderco and a few other brands (no BenchMade) in Edmonton.

Yes! Thanks guys! I'm getting me a Benchmade!

I love Milarm. That's where I got the Endura that I carry everyday. They don't have Benchmade, though.

I'll have to check out those other two stores next time I'm down in Edmonton. Thanks again.

Hi from Calgary!! I also got one of my Benchmades from Knifezone and yes, it took a while - I ordered a BM550/thumbhole/modified sheepsfoot. You may want to give Target Knives (www.targetknives.ca) a try as well. They have a lot :D Don't let the web page fool you in the least!! I got my Mini Ambush and Mini Pika at House of knives, though I think I paid a premium there. The Cutting Edge (www.swords.ca) has a smattering of Benchmades, but again, they may not have a store in Edmonton. I actually got my Mini-Grip at Cutting Edge. They are big on Spyderco and Kershaw. I agree with the customs thing. My mini Grip actually ended up being pretty expensive. I got one seized coming up from stateside  House of Knives in Calgary near where I work only had a couple, I think, (there may have been more - age ;) ) I was actually interested in a PE version of the Mini-Grip and they only had the combo-edge. I would agree with you about handling first - no real surprises that way, though, even that can catch you off guard occasionally. I found that with my FRN Endura - I compared it to my Delica at the shop and it didn't look that much bigger. I ordered my Spyderco Endura from Knifezone, and when it showed up, for some reason, it seemed a lot larger than I remembered. I'm not sure if you have a Sporting Goods store like Russell up there - that may also be an option. Russell here in Calgary doesn't stock BM's, though.

Hope this helps - gord

Hi,

I'm from Edmonton, so far I've purchased all my knives through the internet from the U.S. and have not experienced any problems with Canada Customs. Some of the U.S. companies charged a lot for shipping though. I got charged US$ 25.00 for 1 knife and saw that the postage was only US 8.00. I always insist on USPS. I have bought the these folders Benchmade 710 and 551, Spyderco Endura and Pacific Salt, Swamp Rat RatTrap. Schatt & Morgan Mountain Man (in ATS 34) and also a Queen Cutlery folder in D2.

There should be no problems with fixed blades. I bought more than 10 of these like Busse, Swamp Rat Camp Tramp, Bog Dog, Howling Rate and a couple of Barkies.....

An easy thing to do is have the knife shipped to a friend down here in the lower 48. They can tighten the pivot and forward it to you. Yeah, you pay shipping twice, but USPS Global Priority Mail is only US$5 to Canada.

I've checked out the Supply Sargent. They haven't got Benchmades. Also, their knives are rediculously expensive. I asked the price on a Kershaw Boa they had, and they told me something around $200. I can buy one of those back home in Grande Prairie for half that.

Try Spike Camp, ph# (780) 461-5700
Ask for Brian or Noah
I believe they are an official distributor for Benchmade
Regardless, they got 'em

I saw some too at "Le Coutelier" (wich is simply House of Knives, but in Quebec).

But they sure are expensive, but take a look, I saw some at 50%.

If the model you like is full price, just order it on the net :) (I highly suggest NewGraham, they only ask 4$ for shipping).

Just ask them to tighten the pivots so people at the customs can't flick them open.

And if the knife you want is illegal, there is absolutely no chance that places like House of Knives will have them, and they won't order it for you (I tried for a 42). But we can't blame them.

LeBaron doesn't stock BM, but for Spyderco or Buck knives, you'll find their prices are almost as good as purely online stores. They also stock some Kershaw and Cold Steel.

http://lebaron.ca I believe.

The other day I was in their store and noticed they were selling Spyderco Manix's for only 4 dollars more than new graham knives!

I live in Manitoba and I have had several Benchmade knives shipped to me with zero problems. A few off Ebay, couple from Knifecenter, Aeromedix (Rittergrip). When I began my interest in Benchmade, I followed up on all of their Canadian distributers listed on their website. You can check their, but many are either not selling benchmades anymore or very limited stock. Shipping can be a bit expensive though. We had a House of Knives here, but it closed I think. Their prices were absurd! Here is the link to Benchmade's Canadian distributers. My advice, get something like a Griptilian new from a reputable ebay dealer to test the waters. I've delt with some really great ones. Shipping tends to be less as well. Good luck

Bass Pro Shops, north of Toronto, has a small selection of Benchmades.
I've noticed the Griptillian, regular and mini, at good prices; and some higher-end
knives as well.
