Today's Oregonian Newspaper includes a story on Oregon companies contributing to the war efforts.
Here's a brief snip:
Benchmade Knife of Oregon City, for example, makes combat knives that do multiple duty: They open rations, cut rope, dig holes and, of course, dispatch enemies.
Greg Mooney, Benchmade's vice president for sales and marketing, said the company has seen a pickup in orders from law-enforcement agencies that have beefed up local security across the nation since September 11th. And now that the United States has knocked out the Taliban's air defenses, he's expecting a potential ground war to bring a sudden influx of military orders.
Mooney recalled a recent phone conversatin with his contacts at the Defense Logistics Agency, a combat support operation in Fort Belvoir, Va. The agency has been a good customer for Benchmade's lightweight knives, which bear laser-cut premium-steel blades and resist corrosion from saltwater spray.
"Her comment was, 'Just be prepared,'" Mooney said.
