anyone have one of these knives? i think that this model replaced the 160 tetherknife. i was looking for a good knife to wear around the neck and it appears to be a good choice.. anyone have anything about this knife.

I like mine. Light, flat, and decent ergos for a skeleton grip.

It might not be as generally useful a utility as the 160 was, depending on how you feel about straight edges and chisel grinds. It works great for me.

It is only AUS-8, but then it's not expensive, either. Decent sheath for the $$$.

Mine came screaming sharp, but a buddy said the one he got for his wife needed some hand sharpening before it was up to his standards.

It is not sheeple friendly. :)

"sheep" + "people" = "sheeple"

Hoplophobes and such. People who expect others to protect them and/or be prepared for less than ideal contigencies/situations. Generally afraid of anything they perceive as "weapons", including knives.

I believe their numbers are exaggerated, but they sure are a vocal lot.

so that comment about not being for sheeple was in relation to the instigator being a combat knife or SD blade? sorry for the idiocracy on my behalf men..

Knives that look "mean and scary", "stabby," and/or have black blades or serrations, regardless of the actual design intent are often not highly regarded by "sheeple" or other non-knife-people.

I have an Instigator and a 160 Tether.

The Instigator is a real nice knife for the money IMO. Mine also came screaming sharp. It's quite a bit bigger than the Tether, though and the sheath is Delrin rather than Kydex.

The Tether is more comfortable because of it's smaller size and lighter weight.

The Instigator is a lot scarier looking; but all black coated.

Also the Tether is USA made and the Instigator is Taiwan made.
440C vs AUS8.

Very very different knives.

But, again, IMO the Instigator is a great value. Nice design, excellent fit and finish, razor sharp out of the box.

thanks rif, mine will be in the shop this coming monday.. is it an overall good backup knife? i was going to carry it around my neck as a backup blade to my spyderco Karambit

The chisel grind is exactly what stops me from buying one. :(

Jeffrey, I will say - if you haven't tried a chisel grind personally, the Instigator is a nice chance to see a well done example, and find out if it's for you. Since it is thinner and wider than most non-kitchen chisel ground knives you see in the US, the 'chisel effect' is less extreme.

But hey, if you don't like one-side grinds, you don't like 'em. God knows I have my own list of stuff I just don't want to see on a knife I'm paying for. :)

I think it's a really good backup. Thoughtfully designed, especially at the rounded bottom of the handle, so you've got a pretty large knife that's comfortable to wear even though kind of large. Also skeletonized to keep the weight reasonable. Again, great blade for the money IMO. A nicely turned piece of steel.

Also I'd forgot to mention that the point was also very well done, really very sharp point! Compares favorably in that aspect with a Ronin, for example.

So let us know!
