If you love Bali-Song knives and wondered why Benchmade was discontinuing their great Bali-Songs...go check out WWW.BENCHMADE.COM now!

They used to have a low end, mid-range and then the Customs. The mid-range knives were simply superb as far as I am concerned.

The Customs are even better...

What they have planned is a new Bali-Song that has Titanium, Skeletonized Handles. It is supposed to have the capability to change blades out as it is put together with Torx Head Screws.

Only on Pacific Cutlery and BM Custom Bali-Songs (or other Custom Makers) were you offered a latchless Bali-Song. With this new BM, the latch is attached by a Torx Head Screw, so you can remove the latch if you prefer a Latchless Bali!!!

If that was not enough, they redesigned the area where the latch is so there is no blunting of the tip or dulling of the edge by the latch contacting this area, it has been redesigned and Benchmade really deserves praise for this...

Go over there and Register to Post on their Forum, it is a Bulletin Board similar to BFC. And let them know what you want in the way of different blade shapes, etc., or if you would like the handles Anodized a certain color, etc...

I myself would love to see a Kris blade as a replacement, however, that may be cost-prohibitive.

I would also like to see a completely dull and rounded off training blade that you could use with this Bali-Song.

By all means, go over there and support them as they are obviously catering to US.

Don,

At the NYC knife show, Benchmade told me that the new Balisong would be ready this year. I was one of the idiots that didn't buy any Benchmade balisongs when they were being sold in the '80s and early 90s. :-) Now I have a cheap balisong and the Batangas. The Batangas is real nice, but because of it's weight, it moves slow. Or maybe it's because I'm not that skilled with one...Anyway, I'll definitely purchase the Benchmade model when it's available. I hope they aren't too expensive.

I just checked the website. They are coming out in April! Time to start saving.

Just a note, don't get too excited. I talked to a guy at Benchmade on the phone Friday the
11th, and he said they don't ship them to states where they are illegal, so unless you live in a state where they are legal, or know someone who lives in a state where they are legal, you won't be able to get one from Benchmade directly. You'll have to wait and see what dealers are gonna be carrying them.

Don, if the blades are swappable, you might be able to get a custom maker to do your kris. (Not me! The very idea of grinding a kris gives me a headache). It does open up some very interesting possibilities for aftermarket blades though.

Jerry, how about you making a mirror polished 4.2 inch Millennium Fighter™ blade for it?

Rick, when I get my foot out of my mouth, we can talk about it.

It seems to me like it would be a good marketing move for Benchmade. For every custom blade that gets produced for one of their bali's, they sell another knife - blade and all. So while someone might otherwise buy just one, they can now buy a bunch and have different knifemakers make unique blades for them. And the knifemakers also have to buy one just to see how the blade needs to be made. Hmmm. This is working out much better for Benchmade than it is for the custom makers. That's not what I had in mind exactly...

Sure could make some kick-butt bali's though.
