For some reason I've ended up buying 3 BM's in the past 6 weeks. An auto Rift, an AFOII, and an Onslaught. Today I bit the bullet again and have a large Bone Collector folder in green/black G-10 coming in tomorrow. There was a time when I worshipped at the BM alter, but that is no more. Just odd that I now have 4 BM's in the past 6 weeks.

Anyway, the first three have been very good in all aspects; fit/finish, edge grinds, initial sharpness, and design. The Bone Collector has some great writeups and I really like the design of it. I have gotten into smaller stubby knives, built like a brick sh*thouse, to swap out with my large built like a brick sh*thouse knives, and the BC looks like it may fit the role.

I have some titanium foldover, deep-ride clips on the way from www.usaknifemaker.com that will fit the standard three hole clip that the BC has so that will make this knife very suitable to become an edc for me.

I did a search on this knife and came up with a few comments on it. One comment concerned the writing on the blade. I have to agree that I'm not really fond of the antlers with the skull coming out of them, or the bold "Bone Collector" written on the blade. I don't hunt anymore and this knife will be used for edc purposes which don't really require a lot of strenous work, so I could do without the logo's, but I guess I'll be stuck with them. But if that is the worst thing about this knife then I'll be happy with it.

Anyone else recently gotten one, or had one for a while now and can/will comment upon it?

I've been EDCing a mini bone collector for a few weeks now and really like it. The D2 steel takes a nice edge and after opening and closing it a few dozen (or more) times the action is nice and smooth. The sculpted G10 scales are very nice and give good purchase for the hands. As far as the logo on the blade goes, I really don't care one way or another but if you don' like it then some fine steel wool will remove it easily.

I have the large and really like the design. It is a great knife for the money. The only thing Im not thrilled with is the width of the handle. I have thought about sanding the scales down some to thin it up but haven't gotten around to it. It is similar in size to the Rift and I find the Rift just works better for me so I haven't carried mine yet. I think you will like it.

Dislike the blade design, but love the handles on the large Bone...so swapped the blade out of a 520 Presidio and have the perfect combo...(for me) here's pics:

The swap's easy as the liners are exactly the same for the two knives.

cutter,

I had one, recently sold it. Not because I was dissatisfied with the knife in any way, just financed some other Benchmade purchases.

I agree about the writing, but in the bigger scheme of things it's minor. It's like the Presidio and Grip got together and had a baby with G-10 scales. I especially liked the robust thickness of the blade as well as the thick, sturdy scales. It's a relatively "Heavy Duty" folder. The D2 on mine from the factory was toothy and sharp. It's a lot of knife for the money.

If I hadn't found a small cache of discontinued BMs locally I'd still have mine and will likelly have another to replace it soon. I liked it a lot.

Best,

Heekma

Just got it. I like it!:D It is thick through the handle, but nothing that would keep me from edc'ing it, and I really like the contrasting colors of black and green in the handle. Hope my deep-carry clips come in today or tomorrow so I can outfit it with one. Fit/finish is great, blade centered, edges even and razor sharp. All I need to do is tighten the pivot to my liking and this one is ready to go. The specs indicate that it has a blade thickness of .125", but danged if it don't look thicker. I'll give it a measure when I get home.

Thanks for the comments guy's!

For just under $100 for this, I am very well pleased in my first opinion!:thumbup:

I have the large folder for my EDC. Pure quality. Definitely a mans knife. Smooth operation. Love the handle and the blade geometry. You have to put your hands on this knife to appreciate it.

For the last couple of months, I've been EDCing a Rukus, so the large Bone Collector doesn't seem too large. The handle thickness is about the same on both, although the Rukus is longer by a fair shot.

I'm neutral on the logo. I prefer no logo, whether I like the logo or not. But you don't see it when the knife is closed, and when it's open I'm concentrating on my work.

But if you don't like it, don't get it. Removing the logo may not be as easy as you think. I sanded some scratches out of my 710, and when I was done the "First Production Model" logo was still visible.

And the Bone Collector has a stonewashed finish. You may end up with a shiny patch on your blade rather than the offensive logo.

This is a relatively big knife. The thick handle makes it very comfortable and secure to use, but a little bulky for some to EDC. The D2 steel is awesome. I reprofiled mine to 30 degrees and polished it to a mirror finish. The blade is strong, and cuts very well. The knife is smooth to operate, and the fit and finish on mine is perfect.

I just bought the small version, which is big enough for me and like everything about it. It's a good piece of equipment as built for me. I actually like the modified sheepsfoot blade shape for cutting stuff although it surely wouldn't be the best shape for defensive purposes. I'll be using mine for hunting and utility.

I gott a give it

I have the Mini version. I love the handle; it fits my hand perfectly. The blade, however, has problems as far as I'm concerned: I don't like the shape, the logos are garish, and I find the hole a bit small. So like JKarp, I had the blades swapped with a Mini-Presidio, and...Voila...it is a terrific knife and my edc.

I picked up a mini the other day and I love it. It is the perfect size for me. I've carried a full sized combo edge griptilian at work for the past 10 years or so and I also own a mini grip. I wanted to carry the mini grip as my EDC but the handle on it was/ is a little small for me, so I don't really carry it. The handle on the mini bone collector is just a touch bigger/ thicker to make it more comfortable for me. There is also something about the modified sheepsfoot blade that really appeals to me.

Enjoy your new knife.

The more I've handled the Bone Collector, the more I like it. The handle is a perfect fit for my hand and I find it easy to manipulate the blade hole and open it up. I did replace the clip with a foldover, deep-carry clip and it simply disappears in my pocket with no one the wiser, which is how I want, and like, it to be. I did measure the blade thickness and indeed it is .125" thick. I think that with the whole spine being that thickness it just looks thicker. The thickness only tapers at the last 1/4" to 1/2" of blade. I also like the handle spacer as it feels like it helps to "round out" the handle a bit. I'm seeing this one taking up some edc time in my right front pocket!!!

I'm neutral on the logo. I prefer no logo, whether I like the logo or not. But you don't see it when the knife is closed, and when it's open I'm concentrating on my work.

You know, this is a good point. Though I would prefer to have no logo, this one isn't too bad and I can live with it.

Firstly, never apologize for having a good BM... as the years go by, they become more important. Trust me on this.

Secondly, the logo is there - I know it - and don't like it. The 'package' - and even the price point - make up for it. Mine went right into the EDC role... despite the one, "Dude... what's with the skull??". I left it home during my recent Gulf Shores beach vacation... my 710's D2 gained specks of rust near the thumb studs last year down there. My sacrificial blemished JYDII in Ti & SG2 did fine. Missed the 15020-1, however - it's a great package. Only change that would improve it in my mind would be S30V in place of the D2, although wear wise, they are so similar. Mine came very sharp, too. Bargain!
