Benchmade LifeSharp Service.

Several years ago, while I was visiting BM, they showed me a knife they had on display... well... more the twisted remains for a knife, a BM970.

The owner had been assigned to make the final safety checks on a series of explosive charges set for the controlled demolition of a large building. Somehow, me managed to drop his knife down one of the charge holes. With the armed explosive in the hole, to get his knife out safely would have required an elaborate and time-consuming procedure. The countdown was already underway. This type of demolition involves stopping traffic, evacuating adjacent buildings, emergency services standing by, etc. So, unless there's a serious problem, the show must go on as scheduled. As a result, he had to simply abandon his knife. Later, while inspecting the site for any possible unexploded explosives, he found the twisted remains of his knife. As a joke, he sent it to BM for LifeSharp service. BM replaced it.

That certainly does qualify as user misuse, abuse, or neglect so it's a bit outside the LifeSharp warranty. You can't expect BM to fix your stupidity. You can't expect them to fix every accident either. But this incident does illustrate the seriousness Benchmade attaches to the LifeSharp warranty.

I've talked to many people who have returned knives to BM and just about all have been very pleased with the service.

It surprising that the knife actually survived that! I would have expected it to pretty much "vaporize" under those circumstances...

They do a great job, and you get your knife back in 2-3 weeks. Benchmade is known for their excellent customer service.

What would they do with an old discontinued model? Would they take the time to fix it, or just replace it with a comparable model?

I would assume that they take discontinued models on an as-is-basis and do what they can, if they cant repair it then im sure they would contact you with options on what they can do for you, i have owned my auto stryker 9100SBK for two years and have sent it off once every 6 months or so and have had excellent results from their staff.
