I just picked one of these up and love it. Then I noticed a few opinions that were negative, mainly because it seems to be a Spyderco knock-off.

To my eyes and hand, this seems like a great design, and the fit and finish is typical Benchmade (which is excellent). Other than the liner being a bit thin, I really like this design. The handle is really comfortable (although I cant figure why the indent is milled into the side if the scale). The blade shape and grind are beautiful.

So- my question is: what is the general opinion of this knife by Benchmade? Are the Seki-Cut Lums a good buy? How about the Spyderco?

I would love to hear opinions. Thanks

I love it, myself. I even got to play with the Gold Class version--fantastic in either form.

Apparently there were some quality issues in the first batch.

As per it being a Spyderco knock off, they're both production versions of Lum's customs.

There's some ongoing controversy as to Benchmade's use of Spyderco's patented SpyderHole mechanism on its knives---but that's another story for another thread, I think.

I like the Lum---it's not a Military, but it's a nice design. I very much like Spyderco's Lum designs---the older fixed blade, old folder designs, the Chinese, etc. All well-executed and fantastic knives.

I am eagerly awaiting the new BM Lum design in CPM M4.
