Benchmade Megumi question

Just bought a Megumi and really like it. One thing though, the cocobolo doesn’t line up with the carbon fiber, the cf is raised up. Is this by design?
Recently had a chance to handle one at a store a few months back and in my head remember a smooth transition. The pictures online on BM seem to show a ridge.

My girlfriend's Megumi has the ridge with the CF raised up slightly. I'm pretty sure that is by design.
