I have a benchmade mel pardue, black on black. Anyone have the problem of the blade not being centered perfectly. the blade doesn't rub against the side of the handles but it isn't perfectly centered. Any tips or suggestions to fix this without sending the knife in? Thanks all.

Which knife? Mel provided several models for Benchmade to manufacture.

My guess is it might be a 350? Not all liner locks will sit centered if the pivot screw isn't tight. If its an axis lock, there shouldn't be a problem with centering.

Need more information and preferably pictures to get a better idea.

I've got a few knives whose blades aren't perfectly centered. I normally don't let off-center blades bother me as long as they don't rub against the liners, especially on my less expensive knives. YMMV.

Because of the tension provided by the spring, centering the 3550 can be a chore. You want two tools for adjustments on most Benchmades; T6 (TORX) for handle and clip screws and T10 for the pivot. Try the easy route with tightening the pivot all the way in and then backing it off. If that doesn't help by itself carefully, and with a rag hold the blade and lightly bend it towards the side it's closest to...again with the pivot bolt loose. If this works tighten it down again to where you want it. There's a lot of reasons the blade could be off center, these are among many tricks to try...hope this helps.

tried both of those methods jkarp and it din't seem to work. maybe i'm bending the blade wrong or doing it wrong. can you explain a lil better or have any other suggestions!?!? Thanks

Thanks for the pics. Sometimes we can't make the common adjustments and at that point have to send the knife in to Benchmade, should we choose. But given this is an auto, unless you're law enforcement or an EMT, you can't send it up yourself. One way to do that would be to go to an authorized dealer and have them send the thing up for you - at usually a nominal cost. I wouldn't be comfortable with the angle the blade is going towards the liner and would have it fixed. BTW - the number for Benchmade is: 800-800-7427. Best of luck with the project...!

Thanks for the advice... This is retarted that I have to send a knife in that I just got new two days ago... Silly world..

OK - you might have mentioned that but I don't think so. If it was a private sale contact the person(s) then ask them if you can work out a deal for a refund and go get another. (I have sent knives back on my nickel...) If it was from a reputable shop then take it back and/or get a refund or exchange. If neither of those are options THEN go the repair route with Benchmade as was suggested above.

Yeah, that doesn't look normal, I've never seen a 3550 off center before now, see if the dealer will replace for you first like Joe said.

The 3550 is one of my favorites and have owned a few over the last 13 or 14 years.
