Hello, I'm looking at getting a Mini Grip, but do not know whether to get the 556 with the drop point or the 550HG with the sheepsfoot. I will be mainly cutting rope, whittling, and cooking with it. The more information, the better as I have no knowledge about the differences between the two blades.

I believe the Mini Grip with a sheepsfoot blade is a 555. The 550 is the full size grip.

It's a matter of personal preference really. Thumb hole vs thumb stud. If there was a way to handle both, that would be ideal.

I prefer the 555 myself.

I realize you didn't mention it, but what about the m390 Ritter grip? May as well toss that into the mix if you haven't already.

I own a 550HG, and the only reason is that I like thumbholes. I would not like a standard Griptilian due to thumbstuds, and I sold my Sebenza as it was too slow to open (vs Spyderco style blades). Regarding the blade shape, the sheepsfoot is great for most all tasks: good curve, lots of cutting edge, easy to sharpen. I like the shape better than my smaller Bone Collector 15030 which also has a thumbhole.
