Both are fine knives. The mini Grip is very nice in the hand, but its fairly small. The Stretch feels just a tad bigger, though its not a big knife, and is one of the most ergonomic knives on the market IMO. It would be my preference. But its very subjective, and both are well regarded around here.
I have both and far prefer the Stretch. It is longer in blade, thinner in pocket, much better grip for working, and similar in price. Or spend more for ZDP-189 steel. The Axis lock is cool, but the Stretch is a better knife for cutting jobs, in my experience.
They are both excellent knives, as is the full size Grip. If at all possible, handle the knives and buy the one that feels the best to you - personal preference should be the main determinant as there is no wrong choice here.
The Stretch fits my hands better and it feels more substantial. Spyderco's VG-10 seems to be a little better than Benchmade's 154CM, as I find BM's heat treat to be a little on the soft side. But the two steels are close enough that I'd be happy with either. I think the FFG on the Stretch is better than the hollow grind on the Grip and I prefer the thumb-hole to the thumb-stud. The variations and special editions make things a bit fuzzy though. The Grip can be found with premium blade steels and thumbholes. So the 2 things that matter are the grinds and the ergos.
I have a mini grip, and love it. However I only carry it as a backup or secondary. I think its kinda small. If that's what you are looking for then it's a great knife. I don't own a stretch, but I have plenty of spydercos, and love every one. I just think the 2 knives are too different to compare IMO.
I really like both of those. I have handled a stretch quite a few times but never owned one. My main edc is my mini grip tanto. I will probably be getting a ritter version of the mini grip soon though. Can't go wrong with either, but the mini grip is one good flipper.
