Benchmade Mini Skirmish vs Mini Ruckus

Hi,

I am curious as to how they compare to each other. I am looking for a every day user and love the lines of the Skirmish, it looks as though it would help in making fuzz sticks. But the Ruckus looks beefier.

Your thoughts?
 
Totally different knives!

Mini-Skirmish: thin, recurved, frame lock, hole.

Mini-Rukus: thick, drop point, axis lock, stud.

Similarities? About the same length blade, same maker.
 
It depends on what you are going to use your knife for. My opinion is that if you are using it for genral every day utility pick the one you like better (which might require a trip to the store to handle them). If you are using it for outdoor/camping/survival situations then id say get the rukus because of the more utilitarian drop point blade.
 
I own both, and love each equally. Skirmish is classier, and very strong. Rukus is tactical looking, and way overbuilt. I prefer the framelock, though the Axis is more Ambi. Skirmish is going to be lighter. If you can afford it get both, if not try to handle them both. If you end up with one that you don't love, someone will probably trade.

Functionally, the two knives are equally beefy, in my opinion. The Mini Rukus might feel more beefy in the hand, but that's only because the handle is thicker. I would expect that they could both take the same amount of use/abuse.

I guess the things for everyday use to consider are ergonomics, lock type, blade shape/steel, opening mechanism, pocket profile, and ergonomics. It sounds like you prefer the aesthetics and blade shape of the Mini Skirmish. And blade steel/thickness are both the same, as I recall. Ergos are also good for both, though some prefer a thicker knife in the hand, which the Mini Rukus would be good for. Opening mechanism and lock are a matter of personal preference; I have tended to prefer studs and the Axis lock, but I could see myself gravitating towards the frame lock; your call on that, though. And that leaves pocket profile. The Mini Skirmis will be thinner, but the Mini Rukus will likely allow you to more easily slip your hand into your pocket for other things you store there, as with the tip-up carry, its thumb rest ridges won't rub against your hand.

Hopefully that was coherent and useful. I say buy both... ...and donate the one you like less to me...
 
Per a good sized net knife seller...

BM Mini Skirmish Blade Thickness: 0.130"

I think the Mini Ruckus might be more user friendly for the chores mentioned.
I find recurves a little more difficult to sharpen.
 
I'll do my best. Go all the way to the top of this page. At the top right corner, you should see a message that says "Welcome, Firefrog" (I like that name). Directly under that, there's a blueline that goes across the screen horizontally with words in the line. Under the welcome message is "quick links", to the left of it is "search". Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, I owned both and I loved the Mini Rukus waaaaaaaaaaaaay more. Both great knives and it really comes down to your personal taste.

For some reason it is not showing up there for me. To new perhaps?
There is six links in the blue column, starting with user CP and ending with log out and none that says search. The left of quick links says calendar.

But I do appreciate the input, from reading the thread from the link it appears that the handle of the mini skirmish is a little to small. DANG. Though the skirmish looks great, I need a real user.

Looks like you're looking at the right area, I don't know what the issue is. I just recently boughtmy membership and did searches regularly beforehand.

I didn't like the handle on the skirmish either.

I really like the Mini Skirmish. It is a lot of blade for a "little knife"...!!!

I EDC a regular skirmish, and the mini does not leave me wanting....


Well, technically, it does leaving me wanting one of my own!
