Benchmade Mini-Skirmish?

I have the Benchmade RSK1 and I like it. I am looking for another knife (with a better handle...aluminum or titanium) and ran across the Mini-Skirmish. How does this knife rate?

It uses the same steel as the RSK1 (S30V) and I am wondering if 154CM is a more durable (everyday use) steel. If so, I can buy something else (perhaps a Presidio).

Please help...any info is appreciated.

I would go with the Mini-Skirmish. The CPM S30V really blows 154cm away in edge holding. I can't say anything bad about the Mini, in fact. Lock up is solid. F&F is great. Ergos are wonderful.

the main issue i had with the mini-skirmish is that the thumb hole was too small to open comfortably. my thumb had trouble getting a good hold on it.

I got one not too long ago and its a really great knife. The thumb hole is too small but everything else is exceptional.

I've been eyeing a 710 or 960 myself, 154cm and d2 are absolutely wonderful. I've heard some complaints about skirmish and mini skirmish edges lately.

The guy ragging on about the edge on the 630/635 is a guy who chops cinder blocks as part of his testing. Take anything he says with few hundred grains of salt.

Then we all got to save up and get this fella a new cutting board :D

So, Plastic or wood, he may have a bit of an arm on him by now?

I am very pleased with my BM 635 Mini Skirmish. It is solid, great for pocket carry, and the S30V blade takes and holds a great edge.

Who would this be? I had a 630 that had a bad edge that I sent to a certain forum member who for free of charge, tried various sharpening methods, and deduced that the heat treat was bad. So I sent it to Benchmade. They decided that I needed a new blade, and replaced it. So yes, occasionaly bad ones slip through, but, they were first runs, so the problem has probably been adressed. Besides, if something is wrong, Benchmade has excelent customer service and will fix it. P.S The 630 is an incredible knife, and fit and finish is great! I plan to get a 635 as well, so don't let my (rare) experience deter getting one.

Benchmade has excellent service. One could even say better than my erstwhile favourite co. When I mentioned that I wasn't happy with the original edge on my 635 in that it didn't shave armhairs, they offered to resharpen it at 15 deg per side (as best as they could) and they even reshipped it to me for free. All within a short period of time, and constant communication.

the 635 rocks. the only things I would improve would be to not chamfer the opening hole and the make the handle a tad bit larger.

I don't think it's that the hole is too small, the problem is that the edge of the hole is rounded off, it doesn't have anything for your thumb to catch on. But, aside from that, it's an awesome knife.
