that's right...i started my post with what is quite possibly the worst pun you've heard all week. get over it.:)

i just talked to my benchmade rep yesterday because i'm thinking about refreshing my line of benchmades. little did i know about the benchmade renaissance that is underway. the rep told me they are realeasing something like 20 new knives in the next few months. they signed up 5 new designers. i'm giddy. i'm sure you have all heard about the red line/blue line/black line/gold line. just couldn't hold in the excitement. benchmade gets talked about alot on here but i think it's about to get crazy. i let you know when the rep stops by and i get to play with the samples.

sorry this has no real info on the new stuff. i wish i had more but this is it for now...hope this doens't keep you up at night!

It may be 20 new models, but it's yet to be seen how many of those are in the "red" catagory, which are the overseas produced knives.

Either way, I'll be looking forward to seeing what they come out with, and will most likely get at least a few of the "Reds" to see how they hold up to the usual Benchmade standards.

Interesting. What's all this about the different colored lines:eek: ? First I've heard of it. Anybody have any links?

OK, this is me right now:

: ) o==3

I sure wish someone had some specific info or pics or something. They keep this stuff pretty quiet. Sometimes I cruise over to the BM forum on their site but there's only the slightest whisper over there. They've got the lid on pretty tight.

I did read a rumor somewhere that they're working on a "beefed up" version of the Axis lock and I think the going theory is that they're going to come out with a really hard-use knife. I'd be the first in line.

Anyone got any REAL dirt on some of the new stuff coming out?

fulloflead, your boner dude made me laugh!!!

One of the designers that I am most excited about is Neil Blackwood. Go to his website and look at the Curr folder. I really would like to see an Axis version of that!!!

Oh the Folding Henchman...

From the BM forums:
Red- Entry line
Blue- Most of the current line-up
Black- Military/Leo
Gold- Limited Editions/Customs

"On October 1st, Benchmade Knife Company introduced a new and exciting, expanded product offering. Rest assured nothing has changed with the same world-class products we have been manufacturing for years now. What has changed though, is that Benchmade has expanded its offering to now include something for the casual knife buyer-- and more. Basically, within the new Benchmade there are now four product classifications, Gold, Blue, Black and Red. Each class and color represents its own unique offering.

Inside of the next two weeks you and the rest of the world will be able to see all of the new innovations, products and what each product
classification represents. We are confident you will like what is coming. It's Benchmade.

Thanks and stay tuned!"

Jeez. Who's their marketing person? Tom Ridge?:D

I wonder if each grade will be totally different models or just different variations of the same models?

We can only speculate.
Hell, I'm bored... I think I'll do some speculating right now:

Take the new 5000 for example:

Red- same knife with Zytel handles and bead-blast finish?
Blue- regular 5000 manual?
Black- regular 5000 auto?
Gold- 5000 with hand-polished blade and burlwood handles?

That was fun, but realistically I imagine them doing something like the old Monarch Kraton handle or Ascent for the low-end, having different models altogether for the Black and just having custom materials and finishes on their standard models for their Gold line.

Actually, other companies already have different levels of price/quality; they just don't CALL it that. Let's catagorize Spyderco:
Red- FRN Delica, Endura, MeerKat, Ladybug, etc.
Blue- SS Endura, Impala, Police, etc.
Black- Civilian
Gold- Ayoob, Gunting
...OK, well sort of.

I'm actually excited about custom-grade Benchmades. I wonder what they'll cost. Assuming that you can get most current models in the $100-$125 range online or street price how much would you pay for a custom-grade Benchmade? I don't know if I'd pay more than $200-$225 online/street price.

I also wonder if we're going to see more oval-hole models? When that new Strider folder came out with an opening hole it gave me the feeling that the industry might be moving more toward holes. I hope so.

Hahahaha,

BTW, on the official BM forum, I read that there will NOT be different "grades" of the same model. There will be entirely different models for the different grades.

Oh and another thing. I think I remember reading that BM is making a tanto-style Nimravus....

Thanks for clearing that up. Perhaps between the thousand or so Benchmade fans on this forum we'll figure a few things out.

BENCHMADE sure isn't giving much up!;)

Something I just thought of while sitting here in my room, playing with my 550SBT, what if the red line is the quality of the griptilians???

As much as I and others love the griptilians, we can all agree that they have a much lower price that the other BM knives. Despite the lower price, the griptilians are amazing in terms of how tough they are, and 440C is one of my favorite steels.

I guess the point of this post is to state the fact that the red line might not be all that shabby...

Am I the only one extremely PO'd about this? I mean, I have to completely redo my shopping list. And 20 more knives... do you know how much blood I'll have to sell???

I was sitting here wondering that myself. Actually the large GT isn't THAT much cheaper than the regular models but the mini is kind of in a lower price bracket.

It could go either way. Really, the only thing cheaper about the GT is the plastic scales on the handle. Other than that, there's not much different about it than other models.

Maybe you're right. Maybe they'll come out with others like the GT with the Axis lock.

I, personally would bet money against it. I think they'd go about 20-30% cheaper and scrap the liners too but keep the Axis lock. I invision something like an Ascent which has all-plastic handles but with an Axis lock. I know. It's a long shot and I might lose my betting money, but I can't see BM going from where they are now to more liner locks or lockbacks.

I'm thinking for the low-end all-plastic handles and either an Axis lock or some other new lock invention but no liner locks or lockbacks.

Now, hand me my chips and spin the roulette wheel!:D

Dexter Ewing said the new 10200 Ambush by Pardue is in the red line. It uses the BM-ized rolling lock, the first knife the make since buying the patent

WOW, i don't come on here for a week or two and something like this happens!! I can't wait to see what BM has in store for us, i'm a pretty big BM fan.
