Yesterday I was excited to receive my new Nagara. (I see it won an award as best imported knife at the Blade Show.) On inspection I was impressed with the anodized blue titanium handles, lightening fast and scary-sharp blade, plus a mirror polish on both the blade and pocket clip. Throughout the day I had it in my pocket along with my other new knife, the Speed Bump. Later I took it out to admire my new Nagara only to discover that the blue surfaces of the Ti handles were scratched. See the pictures. Has any one else had this problem? I presume so! Is there anything I can do to return it to its pristine condition of one day ago?

I hate to break it to you but its not a "problem" with the knife per se, but just a fact of life for titanium. TI takes scratches easily.

In order to get it to look the same way as when you got it, you would probably have to refinish the whole handle, spot fixing is almost never flawless. I say you carry it extensively and get it a real nice set of battle scars.

It's not a problem, that's just what happens you have other things in your pocket along side your knife. Be happy, you've added some character to that knife now.

Just brace yourself for the day you cut something with the blade:foot:

you could try to scrub it with some soft soap (ajax, Comet, Bon-ami) and see if you can get some of the color to go away to make them less noticeable.

titanium is relatively soft and will be easily scratched by some of the other things that could be in your pocket. if you plan to carry the knife you're going to have to accept or even learn to love the scratches. Personally i love to gives my knives some character as long as its only cosmetic.

After time the scratches will build up a stonewash-like finish. Don't sweat it, just use it! I plan on picking up a Nagara knowing full well that it'll get scratched to s***! :D

Lesson learned: DON'T put two knives in the same pocket if you don't like scratches.

I have that knife for months now and it's my go-to knife since I got it. scratches will come from knife use. You just have to accept that. I know that those first scratches are killer, but after the first few scratches you'll realize that it's for use and finally use it as it is meant to.

What I usually do is keep the pocket that my knife is clipped to always empty to avoid things like that. and it also avoids having things fall out every time I pull out my knife.

most of the knives i edc have ti handles/bolsters and while i love ti it scuffs and thats just the way it is, not a thing ya can do about it other than to be carefull about what else is in your pocket when ya carry it & dont drop it.

when i 1st got my Ti ATR a few yrs ago my best bud was looking at it and dropped it on my garage floor, and yes it scuffed it up, not bad though, oh well..........its always a good thing if it has to get scuffed up its you doing the scufffing but its not always how it is lol......
