Hi BF,

I am wondering does the Benchmade Nakamura still have the issue of the thumb studs often get caught on the pocket when removing the knife from your pocket? If so, how do you Nakamura users prevent that?

I believe the design is unchanged. I finally got cut on a half open blade about a month ago. Never happened before that. Now I grip the entire end of the knife (with blade) when I withdraw it from the pocket. An offside thumbstud mod would be welcome.

I thought I was the only one that kept getting bit by the axis lock being waived open by the thumb stud

So apparently, nobody has a fix for this yet? Are the thumb studs removable?

Use the "search" function in this forum and you will see a thread with a fix. I think it even has fix in the title.

The studs are probably removable as is with most if not all BMs. I am EDCing a 531 which has a similar problem. I contemplated grinding the studs a bit with a Dremel tool but have not. I wonder if there are studs you could by from a knife kit company like Jantz?

Wouldn't it just of been easier to link the thread? I did search before I posted, and I still cannot find it.

Whoa. Just trying to provide some quick drive-by info, buddy. Not trying to be a research assistant. Maybe I mis-remembered.

IIRC, someone suggested to remove one side of the thumb studs that they are not using to minimize the problem.
I've also seen one 484-1 with only 1 thumb stud in the exchange recently

Replace one side with screw. I did that in BM 913. Screw from eccentric/adjustable stop pin used in BM 913 is good.

I have been carrying my 484-1 Nakamura literally every day for just over a year, I don't go anywhere without it. I haven't been bitten yet. I find that if you you simply twist it inwards, away from your pocket seam as you draw it out, it pretty much takes care of it. A couple pairs of jeans have tighter pockets so I just twist a bit harder, as long as you are conscious of it, you can avoid any incident.

The way I grip it might also help, I stick my thumb into my pocket against the scales with my other four fingers outside to ride the clip as I twist and draw, almost like the way you would grip a screw driver as you twist it, this keeps my palm basically over the spine of the blade so that if it does snag and tip a bit, it tips the spine of the blade into my palm, thus stopping it from tipping out further. I suppose every knife has its quirks and its ways, I personally love this knife. Changing out the thumb studs is another solution if you can find some that fit the diameter of the holes.

Hi guys, got my 484-1 a few weeks back. brand new it was rock solid but too stiff to open or close, so I decided to loosen the pivot screw just a bit but felt a small up and down blade play even after tightening it back. my mini grip is rock solid even if loosening the pivot screw which supposedly be altering the side blade play only.
