Hey guys!

I recently found a benchmade that has been m.i.a. for yearssssss. Go figure, my dad took it and had it in the bottom of his work bag. It's filthy, rusty, cruddy, grimy, gravely, and any and everything else. I cleaned it up as best I could, but the mechanism is ROUGH. It's literally hard to open. It takes quite a bit of effort to open and lock. I lubed it up super well, but me thinky it needs to be opened up. The thing is, I have no idea how to open it up! I think it might need a special sort of allen wrench. Anyone have any suggestions?

Here are some quick pics of the knife I just took with my phone.

ETA: I don't know the model, all i know is that it says Elishewitz.

Thanks guys :D

Not allen wrench, Torx bits. You can find tiny ones made for working on electronics and such at radio shack or Harbor Freight. As far as how to disassemble and reassemble a benchmade with the AXIS lock, I have no experience, so somebody else will have to help you there.

I'm not positive but I think that it is a T10 torx screw for the pivot. I'm sure someone with more info will be along soon.

Taking the blade out of an AXIS lock knife is usually not too stressful, I'd start with that and see if the grit is in the pivot. a thin film of grease on the washers will help stick them to the blade when you are putting it back. Full diss-assembly of everything including the lock is a bit fiddly. I've seen a tutorial somewhere in the forum for a Griptilian, that should be close enough to your knife to set you on the right path

Gotcha. First I need to figure how to get the blade out, though. I guess i'll have to look at the torx bits. I tried the one that my leupold uses, but it doesn't fit

As someone else mentioned, the pivot is a T10 torx bit. The smaller screws will likely be T6. If you do dis-assemble, be careful not to lose the stop pin, as it's not held in with with a screw since it's just sandwiched between the scales.

The Axis lock isn't that hard to take apart and put back together. I've had a harder time with lock backs.
