Well just got back from a camping trip and this is the first time I've really used this knife for anything at all.

I didn't do any specific tests to see how the knife would hold up or anything like that. Just used it when it needed to be used.

Used the Nimravus to hack and cut away at a broken branch that we used as a walking stick for our hike (didn't have an axe on us). The branch had actually been a little frayed from before and the Nr just finished it off. The branch had about a 2" diameter and I expected that all that hacking would've completely dulled my edge but it didn't.

Later used it to pry the griddle up from our fire and the tip held up well too. The griddle probably weighed about 7 - 8 lbs. I know knives are not prybars but I did it anyway.

Did a lot of rope cutting which was no problem and also cut open a lot of pop cans just for the heck of it of it.

One thing that wasn't great for hiking was it's Kydex sheath though. Wasn't secure enough...it would've been a lot more secure if it had a clip around the handle too. Also I would've been much more confident with it if it had a proper guard to stop my wet hand from sliding all the time. I think a kraton handle would've been better in the rain than the G10. Well, it was designed as more of a tactical knife than a camping knife so I'm not suprised at my discoveries in the rain.

One thing I didn't like was that my G10 faded to a greyish colour which seems kinda odd when my AFCK went through the same kind of conditions and the G10 on that knife is still as black as when I first got it. Not a huge deal though.

My Nimravus performed well for what I used it for and after a little cleaning and maintenance it still cuts like mad. The only signs that it was taken on a camping trip is the ugly, scratched up BT coating.

I have an older Nimravus partially serrated made with ATS-34. It's a nice knife. I like it because it's thin. I took my sheath apart and removed the belt loop and put a metal clip from an old IWB holster around part of the sheath and then screwed it all back together. It is a great kinfe in the small of your back IWB. I went from hating the sheath to loving it. It has just enough resistance to hold the blade securely without the need for a snap or anything to slow down the presentation. I don't use it too often as its warmer weather now, but if you can put a shirt over it it's great.

My Nimravus has been through the wringer, and is still ticking. That robust tip will stand up to prying better than I ever expected. I pried apart a speaker box with it, and have used it to rip hose clamps off that wouldn't unscrew at work.
I hate the sheath. Mine was the original kydex sheath with a steel clip. Security wasn't very good, and the knife (sheath and all) once made a 40 foot drop after it came loose from my belt while climbing around on some steel girders.
One word on the coating...if you tire of the BT2 rubbing off and decide to sand it, leave the coating under the scales. Mine has collected rust under there (from wearing IWB, and being sweated all over) since having the finish sanded off.
Normark (Eric Noeldechen) makes a Concealex rig that ended all my sheath worries.

Thanks for the review.
Glad you like your knife:)

The Nimravus is an excellent all around knife. Like Owen I stripped mine and got a sheath from Eric. Getting an OS/T sheath made the knife much easier to carry. Eric's work is top notch, he is also a great guy and I highly reccomend him.
Here is my Nim:

Glad to hear you guys speak so highly of Eric. I pondered getting a sheath from him before I went on this trip but I thought I'd give the orginal one a try first. I think this one is more for 'urban use' than it is for the outdoors.

Looks like next paycheck I'll be buying a new accessory for myself...

I've admired this knife for quite some time and just recently picked one up. It has not at all disappointed me. I'm a huge G-10 fan and its handle shape just fits my hand...whatever I'm doing. The blade shape screams, "Use me!" It's a simple work of art. I have handful of BM products. Here's a couple:

So which is a better knife Ron? that Stryker you have up there or your X-Ray Vision?? :D

Just kidding. I'm just being a smart-ass.

I actually lost my Crossgrip on that same camping trip and I was nearly in a state of depression when I discovered it was gone. Damn, that makes me feel so sick. I also lost my Micra and my Victorinox Camper. Dammit!!!!:grumpy:

I carry the Night Vision...which I do prefer. But "autos" are a lot of fun! :) Period! :)

Well "Smartass," drop me an email or give me a call at 888.SOG.BEST, ext. 228 (good luck getting through my call screening staff :) ).
