I'm trying to pick out a good all-round EDC folder. From everything I've seen/read, I've settled on the Benchmade Nitrous Stryker with plain edge spear point blade. I went to my local sporting goods store to try it out in real life, and I came away a little disappointed. The knife rode low in my pocket, felt great in the hand, and seemed like it was a quality item, but there was just one problem: I couldn't get the blade to snap open to save my life!

The tension just to open the knife was somewhat stiff, so I was sure it would swing right into place. But after I pushed open the blade, it would stop at about 45 to 30 degrees. I know I was putting pressure on it, because after about 10 minutes I noticed that the skin under my thumbnail had been pulled back to the point of minor blleding.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with this knife? I also looked at the Kershaw Blur and it opened for me every time. But I didn't like the blade on the Blur, it just didn't have the beefyness that I felt like the Stryker had.

Moved to appropriate forum.

I have owned two at different times. Never had a problem like that with either one. Only sold them to get funds for the next super knife. Miss having one so will get another soon. Was a great EDC.

Was the pivot bolt tightened down a bit too much? I've had two BM nitrous knives and each opened with complete authority. Might be a factory dud, but that's hard to believe coming from Benchmade.

I haven't had any experience with these knives before so I wouldn't know about the pivot bolt. What seemed like was happening was the spring mechanism was pushing it halfway there, and then just gave out. Maybe if the pivot bolt was loosened the blade would continue all the way? I should also point out that the store owner was able to open it almost every time, and he also said the Kershaw was easier to open. A few patrons at the shop seemed to think that it was just a new knife and needed to be oiled and loosened a bit.

The Nitrous Stryker isn't designed to open until it hits the 30 degree mark. Loosening the pivot would certainly make it easier to pass that point though.

My problem wasn't opening the knife past a certain point (like this: /|), the problem was that when the assisted opening system took over, the blade stopped short of locking in place (like this: ___/).

I've handled a few, and I must say... serious snap. Yours may have just been a dud...

Well from what I'm hearing I should have no problem getting this knife and having it work correctly. Now does shriner know agood, place to buy one? Thr minimum I've seen them for is $120. Cheaper on Amazon, bu tg ou tg of stock...
