I'm looking for a black handled benchmade, partially serrated, non chisel ground, tanto pointed folder. I narrowed the choices down to the Stryker (I'd prefer it in 154CM but all I can find is D2) and the Osbourne Gaucho (this is 154CM)

The Stryker is a liner lock, with G-10 handles, and the Gaucho is an axis lock with anodized aluminum handle scales. The Gaucho has a recurved tanto blade, while the stryker has a straight tanto blade.

I ended up getting the NRA Gaucho. Now I'm second guessing myself. I've looked at the threads on both knives and although there were hardly any threads on the NRA Gaucho, everything was positive. The Stryker was getting mixed reviews.

The prices of both knives are about the same (@ $100).

any input? comments?

thanks

pete

I own the BM 905, the mini-Stryker, and I also own several Benchmade Axis knives. I prefer using my knives that have the Axis lock. They are smoother to use, easy to use with either hand.

If Benchmade made an Axis lock version of the Stryker, that would be another story...

you didn't want the pika?
I prefer spyderco lockbacks.

my sentiments exactly. I buy benchmade for the axis lock and I like benchmade serrations a lot. that was the main reason why I selected the Gaucho over the axis. I was iffy on the recurve tanto blade though. I'll know the first time I cut something whether it's going to work for me or not :)

I'd agree with the Axis lock as being the one I would pick. Smoothness and strength is what the Axis lock brings to the table.

just had a look at the gaucho, looks like a sweet knife.
unfortunately, being in Australia import laws prohibit the axis lock under the gravity knife laws, so I'll just have to become a goverment contractor and hopefully get exemptions for those and auto's ;)
