Is the NRA line more akin to the BLUE line series or the RED line series in Benchmade's regular line up? Specifically the fixed blades. The name escapes me at the moment---but its a modifed skinner with laminated handle scales attached.

I'm comparing these to the Cabela's V30 Buck Mini-Alpha Hunter.

Thanks.

The Red line Benchmades are the ones specifically outsourced, i.e., not made in the U.S.A. Blue line is made in America.

Not sure where the NRA's are made, but it would be ironic if knives with NRA logos were made in China.

That wouldn't be ironic, it would be freaking hilarious :D

It appears that the NRA line is in fact the red line mixed with some blue class. If you look at NGK at their NRA folders, it appears that some of them are "rolling lock" which as far as I can tell is used only in the red class. Also, it you take a peek at the prices, they are right around the price range of the Red class wit ha few exceptions of the Axis versions of the NRA line.

I have an NRA Benchmade, and it is a tarted up red class. And total garbage. I managed to chip the blade badly the first and only time I really used it. The steel is simply awful. As a lifetime NRA member, I really wish they would choose the knives they put their logo on a little better. People in the NRA should know quality. There is a blue class model (one of the AO) in the lineup, but I totally think it was the wrong choice. There should be an NRA 710 and an old-school AFCK or Stryker. I'd certainly buy those. I wish Spyderco did some NRA models. NRA Enduras and Delicas would be slam-dunks, if the NRA didn't mind japanese models.

The NRA Steigerwalt's are made in the USA, and really nice little pocket knives. I love mine.

I was going to say that the Steigerwalts look pretty great and I've heard good things about them.

I bought my brother in law one a year or two ago that he wanted for his birthday. Like a dope I wanted to see how sharp it was and it sliced me. I told him the story and he now calls it his DNA knife :-). He likes the knife.

I took the plunge and ordered one of these Benchmade NRA Stockmen today.

I ordered it from a place fairly close, should be here by Tuesday. I'll post initial impressions when it arrives.

I have zero experience with 8Cr14MoV Stainless, anyone know what I can expect?

I have the Benchmade NRA Gaucho. It's an Osborne design in ATS-34 steel and is a US-made "blue line". It is a fantastic knife.
