Benchmade omega springs

Benchmade generally requires you send them the knife, and they won't send you Omega springs. There have been a couple exceptions in the past, but the vast majority of cases, they won't send them out.

You can make them out of guitar strings. There's a few posts about that here on the forum that should be a google search away.

If they are made by guitar strings will they such ergonomical as the original ones or thre would be aproblem with the use ?

It sounds like you might be outside the US. If that is the case contact Benchmade and tell them you need new ones but that you are worried about the cost of shipping, customs, and losing the knife in transit. They should send you new ones.

Did you break one or are you just worried about the possibility of it happening? I made a new one with a piece of MIG welding wire and 2 pairs of needle nose pliers. Didn't take long and they are still working great a few years later. Just use the broken one as a guide for the new one. Also, replace both sides with a home made spring so that the spring tension is equal on both sides.

I've heard that thicker, non-wound guitar strings make good Omega springs, like kreole said. That's what I'm going to do if I should need replacements again.

You mean will they minimize operator fatigue and discomfort?

Sure.

You could also buy one of the Chinese-made axis lock knockoffs and then you'll have back-up springs.

To my knowledge Benchmade sends them for free if you live far away. What country are you from? I made a pair of springs from MIG welding wire as it was the same diameter as the original (0.025") and I had it on hand. They are still working great. But don't let the talk ooh broken springs scare you away. I am convinced it happens a lot less than the forums make it sound. I think people read about it and then talk about it even though it never happened to them. The actual number of people who say it has happened to them is quite small from what I can tell.
