I'm new to the forum but have been carrying a knife for 45+ years. I never had anything of "good quality" and ran across this Benchmark. I read pretty much everything I could find on this knife (except I don't know what 58-60 HRC which I assume is hardness?) and was curious if anyone had one. Never had / heard of Benchmark but from what I've read they must be pretty good. Found one at One Stop Knife Shop for $125. That place any good?
Never bought a gun or knife without feeling it. I really know less then a little about $100 and up knives. Any comments on that knife or maker?

Thank You.

You talking about Benchmade or Benchmark?

Totally different companies.

Judging by the word Opportunist, I believe you mean Benchmade. Benchmade make great knives. I own a few myself. I love both Benchmade and Spyderco :)

Oh......and by the way....welcome to the forum :)

Great place and a bunch of nice people.

He means Bennchmade, you can tell by the thread title.. Benchmade is a great company, I would say my favorite. While I haven't handled the Opportunist, I can tell you it won't disappoint. Benchmade has an excellent warranty and "Lifesharp" service. Send in your used dull knife with money for return shipping and recieve a factory sharp knife. Search the forums for people sending their knives in for warranty and their experiences.

I would also recommend the benchmade 690, it's somewhat similar in styling and price range... and one of my favorite knives ;)

Yea, I meant Benchmade (duhhhhhhhhhhhh) . I never heard of the company till a few days ago. I carried a knife for 45+ years but only now am I beginning to see a world of knives I never knew existed. Thanks for your help.

The opportunist has a nice feel to it, but not if you have bigger hands like mine. It doesn't have a clip, is S30V and T6-6061 handles. The scales I believe are cocobolo (?) and the back spacer is the same as the wood. Liner lock and nice lock up on it. Benchmade seems to be uping their already excellent quality. By that, I mean the newer models seem to be getting smoother and smoother straight outta the box. They are well worth the money.

If I bought one, it would be nice for settin' in the pants pocket.

Well they had a Benchmade dealer by me so I went to check it out. The lowest I've seen on the internet was $120 + shipping. This guy had 1 left (first production 0568/1000) for $150 so I bought it. I don't know if this 1st production means anything but oh well, I have it. Everything seems great but I really don't have anything much to compare it to except a couple Camillus knives with southwest inlays I bought in Santa Fe.
I guess the fact that everything moves so smooth impressed me. I really like the looks as well. Oh yea, I have big hands too, a 12 or 13 ring finger.

I saw one at my dealer the other day... It sure looked nice, but I didn't get a chance to pick it up. Those aluminum "jigged" scales look better than I imagined.

First production means just that.. it's the first 1000 made. Got pictures? I didn't realize the 440 was a full sized knife until someone posted a picture of it next to the 635 Mini Skimrish

Sure, I'll try to post some later today. Last night I had some Hoppe's lemon oil for wood and just sat down and rubbed it into the wood . It was the first time I "really" looked at it closely and I was was very impressed. Thought and time went into it's construction. Total contrast in that the entire knife was smooth and warm (wood) except, the blade. which was cold and sharp. I'm afraid I'm hooked.........................big time.
