Benchmade Osborne 940 question

I have a seller who has a 940 for sale. He claims the satin blade is stamped 940 and S30V; however it has a BLACK handle.

I thought only the 942 and limited editions had black handles.

I asked him if he switched handles, and he claims he got the knife as a gift, as is.

Thoughts??

If there is no limited edition number stamped on the blade then I would have to agree with you that the green handles were switched out. Plus I'm pretty sure the limited edition, which is called the 940-1101, had a black blade, not satin.

Was it in the box when he received it as a gift? What model number was on the box? How much is he asking for this knife?

He said the box says 940.

If the handles have been switched out, my concern is that it may void the warranty if I send it in for service. Does anyone know if this also voids the life sharp program??

Technically it does void the warranty, but Benchmade's customer service is top notch. I doubt they would charge you much for service or sharpening. If the model number on the box is 940 (with no numbers after it), then the handles were definitely replaced.

was it this one on ebay? hehe
