Benchmade preorders

Anybody know how benchmade ships preorders? I preordered a gold class tengu a couple months before official release and have not received it. Meanwhile every store has had them in stock for weeks including my tiny local retailer. Knifecenter is suggesting Benchmade is sending the knives to them as they trickle in. Is that way it works? Preorder and you may or may not get your knife but if you waited you can just go to the store and buy it? I expected them to ship preorders as a group before distribution.

I’m bummed about the process. Not sure if I should have known or knifecenter sucks. I’ve preordered from BHQ many times and the knives always showed up the week they are released. Maybe I got lucky before?

So if I understand correctly you preordered it from knifecenter? They tend to not be the best about preorders, I've seen them offer preorders on discontinued/limited batch production knives.

Some places like BHQ limit the number of preorders they offer, other places do not. More than likely, Knifecenter got a large number of preorders, and the first shipment from Benchmade contained less knives than the number of preorders. Or your local dealer placed their order before Knifecenter did.

I make a habit of not preordering anything. I only buy from stock on hand.

That’s correct. I preordered from knifecenter. If they took more orders then they could deliver that’s a shame and dishonest. There is no point preordering if that is the case. It’s not just my local dealer. Literally every single knife retailer shows it in stock. Knifecenter is the only one that still says preorder on their website. The benchmade website shows it as out of stock. I hope that is temporary and I get a knife. If not, I feel like I was conned by knifecenter and what appears to be shady business practices.

You can look at some other people's experiences with Knifecenter's preorders in the Feedback section of this site.

My two cents: cancel the preorder, get your money back and buy your knife from someone who has it in stock.

Their website is a little odd when I've checked them. A lot of the knives I've looked at all say "pre-order" even though I know the model is out already. The Mini Adamas for one. I personally don't do pre-orders but I found this to be odd.
