BENCHMADE Presidio 520 vs.Benchmade Heckler & Koch 14205

Both are amazing knives, absolute tanks of folders. The 520 and family chew up my pockets big time. Also the aluminum handle's finish can get worn over time... not a problem with the G10 on the 14205. I also slightly prefer the ergonomics on the 205.
But the G10 is not as textured (grippy) as it ought to be on the 14205. The 520, however, is not leaving your hand til you put it down.

You cant go wrong with either. Hell, get both, I did.

I don't own either one but if given the choice I would really love to pick up one of the HK's. I am not fond of aluminum handles which I believe the other one has. I'm sure they're both good blades though.

Get the 14205. I don't like the aluminum handles. Both are tanks though. If you like the handle shape of the 520 but not the AL. look at the new BM bone collector series. These are the same handle but clad in G-10.

The HK 14205 also has an open backspacer where the 520 has full backspacers. 14205 has the thickest blade of the 3 too. The only folder that BM makes with a thicker blade is the 630 Skirmish which is a 4.3" blade. 14205 is an absolute beast.

I own both but carry the 14205 more often due to the scales on the 520, which goes out clipless in a large BM velcro pouch. The wife hates that I always tear up that one pocket of my pants!

The blade shape and design are similar, with a nod towards the 14205 again with its thickness, and something about the pivot of the '205 delivers such a smooth opening, whether with a flick or with the stud.

If there was a vote I'd say the 14205 is one of the best non-branded Benchmades they've ever made, and as a great backup the 14210 is a good choice also.

So i am going to pick on eof these knives and order one before tonight is out..I think the 14205 is winning the poles...after all the advice, aluminum handles just seem a little rough..i love the idea of a "tank style' knife, but hot in the summer, cold in the winter aluminum not for me..at best i would get the BM 525...but i think the 14210 seems it would be more my style..i have a bone collector sweet as knife!!!..one day i may go for the 520....any last minute advice please hit me up...found the 14210 for 109..not a bad price..

Just so we're clear, the 14210 is the smaller 3" version, the 14205 is the larger 3.5" version. Want to make sure you're getting the right one!

I have both models, and as said before, there both great.
Although, I find my self carrying the 520 more, I just love the feel and blade more than the 14205. If the handle gets scratched up, its just battle scars.
As far as tearing up pockets,I remove the clips on all my knives, and sew up a narrow portion of my RF pocket. Works great! :D

Judging by the reviews on youtube and the pictures..the 520 does appear to be a more rugged knife..and i think one day i will get it..but the aluminum handle...try to stay away from metal handles...they should do a G-10 version..

I have both, carried both long time and love both.

The scales on my 520 are older, the newer anodisation is grippier, better IMHO, but may really eat up pants. I haven´t have the problem or never realised, there would be one.

If i have to tell, which one is the better one:

Well, the 14205 is shorter when closed and slimmer than the 520 and even though has the thicker blade. It carries easier.

The 520 blade looks less aggressive and the handle is big enough for anything. It´s weight and balance makes it easy to chop small branches.

The 14205 is the better edc with an more aggressive looking blade.
The 520 is the better working knife.

To each knife there was a comment of ppl. while i was pulling it out:

520: "Oh, he has his bushknife with him!"

14205: "Don´t you need a permission to carry that?"

Did i say, you can´t go wrong with each? :D

I have the Presidio, but not the 14205. TBQH, the main reason I opted for the 520 over the 14205 was because I prefer the aluminum handles on the 520 and am not a big fan of G10. If you don't have a preference of materials, I don't see how you could go wrong with either knife...

If the aluminum is unwanted, the Bone Collector is a Presidio with G10 and a different blade shape.

I'd have to say the 14205 don't like the finishes on any of the BM aluminium handled knives.

Well with all the advice and reviews..i order the 14205...i have the bone collector..so it makes a nice set....thanks for all the adice!!!

Best of both worlds? Get a 522 and swap blades out of a 520 if you don't like the aluminum scales. It's a good combination.
